CHAMBER TAKES BUSINESS VISITS PROGRAM TO NEW HEIGHTS!

This month the Chamber visited Aspen Helicopters with City Manager Greg Nyhoff, Police Chief Scott Whitney, and Chamber Chair Amy Fonzo. Charlie McLaughlin was the very accommodating host. Like most business visits, we learned a lot about the work Aspen does locally and throughout the U.S. In addition to support of our ag industry, they do a lot of work for the Navy, the Department of Forestry, and offer executive charters.

CITY AND COUNTY NEED TO BURY THE HATCHET

I have always been a live and let live kind of person. I don't like conflicts. I prefer harmony over anarchy. Unfortunately controversy crosses my path more often than I like. Occupational hazard, I guess.

CHAMBER MOURNS THE PASSING OF TOM BEARDSLEY

2008 Chairman of the Chamber Board, Tom Beardsley, passed away on September 20 following a cardiac incident. Tom was the owner of Beardsley and Son, a fertilizer company started by his father. Tom was born in Oxnard and spent most of his life here. Tom brought many ag-related businesses into the Oxnard Chamber during his tenure on the Board.

He will certainly be missed by all who knew him. Our sincere condolences go out to his wife Paulette, daughter Melinda, and all his family and friends.

MEMBER MESSAGES
5 THINGS WE DID FOR YOU IN THE PAST WEEK
1.Attended a Ventura County CoLAB meeting where the county of Ventura and city of Oxnard presented plans for the new Rice Avenue overpass of the railroad tracks near Fifth Street. Great solution to cure the dangers currently at that intersection. We’ll share information on the project as it moves forward.

2.Held an Executive Committee meeting where the Chamber’s financial statements were thoroughly reviewed. Good to know our members’ investments are being carefully watched.

3.Held a Happy Hour 1.5 mixer at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Oxnard. It was great to have a lot of first-time visitors there.

4.Had a business visit at Aspen Helicopters with the City Manager, Police Chief, and Chamber Chair. The helicopter tour of Oxnard was fabulous and eye-opening!! Thank you, Charlie McLaughlin!!!

5.Sent a veto request letter to Governor Jerry Brown on SB 33 , Senator Hannah Beth Jackson’s legislation that would require employers with 20 or more employees to provide up to 7 months for maternity / paternity leave.
