Summer in the White Lake Area

The White Lake Area is lucky enough to see and live all four seasons throughout the year, but there is no denying that our towns come alive a little extra in the summertime.

Students are out for the summer, family vacations take place, new tourists discover the area, and those who call the White Lake Area home for part of the year begin to arrive. It always feels like a new start when summer arrives!

Montague, Whitehall, and our surrounding communities that help make up the White Lake Area all work hard to make sure no summer day is wasted, rain or shine. The Farmers Market and Artisan Market in Montague are weekly stops for many. The White River Light Station is a favorite with its views, maritime museum, summer concerts, and yoga on the lawn. Many wait all year long for the free summer concert series put on by the Arts Council of White Lake, the summer theatre festival put on by The Playhouse at White Lake to come back each summer, and the free shows at Blue Lake Fine Arts CampMichigan's Adventure Double JJ are booming with their waterparks. Lewis Adventure Farm and Zoo Country Dairy help ensure they have something for the whole family to enjoy. White Lake, Duck Lake, Lake Michigan, and White River are where you'll find swimmers, anglers, boaters, kayakers, and more--especially thanks to all of our boat and kayak rental businesses! And if people aren't on the water, many are on the trails either walking, running, or biking. Hint--our Chamber office has some great trail maps! Not to mention, so many of our great restaurants and breweries have special summer food items, drinks, and outdoor seating.

There really is so much to do in the White Lake Area during the summer months. Our summer may feel short, but it sure is sweet. Looking Back:

Quarter Two Highlights

April-June 2024

Trash Bash

We held our annual Trash Bash in April, a community-wide clean up around the White Lake Area. Over 100 people gathered on a beautiful spring day and dispersed among our local trails, parks, and waterways to help clean up.

This event, sponsored by, Consumers Energy, provides a perfect opportunity for groups, teams, organizations, families, and individuals, to give back in a fun way.

Specials thanks to Greg Hillebrand of The Lewis House Bed & Breakfast for helping us organize, to WaterDog Outfitters for offering free kayak and bike rentals for the event, to Walmart for providing trash bags, and to Knight Transfer for providing a refuse container to collect all of the garbage.

Feet on the Street

We celebrate the kick-off to summer in the White Lake Area the first Sunday of June each year at our annual Feet on the Street event! This was our third one, and we love seeing it grow each year.

Sponsored by Luna Floral & Design and Salon Peggy Sue, Feet on the Street is a free community party that takes place in the N Mears Promenade in Whitehall. There is live music, food vendors, and activities ranging from exotic animals, bounce houses, yard games, scavenger hunts, crafts for all ages, and more.

We love this new tradition of welcoming summer into the White Lake Area with one big community kick-off party!

Arts & Crafts Festival

Over Father's Day weekend, we held our 45th annual Arts & Crafts Festival! It was a great time with live music, food vendors, inflatables, kids crafts, and over 85 arts and crafts vendors. Saturday was perfect, and Sunday brought us some rain and winds, but our vendors and attendees weathered the storm along with us (literally!).

Specials thanks to Redi Rental for being our premier sponsor, and to our gold sponsors, HarborLight Credit Union and Scheid Plumbing, Heating & Cooling, our silver sponsor, New Beginnings Church, and our bronze sponsors, Aludyne and MasterTag.
