Working in partnership with The Island Wanderer, we are sharing stories of local businesses and the people behind their success.

Rich Batcheller on Life and Blackmouth Design

Blackmouth Design encompasses design, project management, engineering, fabrication and installation services under one roof.

They also employ the most up-to-date software and technology to create 2D/3D ideation and designs for retail environments and fixturing, art installations, event designs, architectural elements, experiential and residential designs.

In 2022, Blackmouth opened their first Putt-Putt Clash contest, where creatives design their own holes, which are “open to the public”, so players can experience putt-putt golf on the grounds around the studio. The golfers get to rate the holes for first, second and third place winners.

On July 22, join Blackmouth and participate in Putt-Putt Clash contest at 7689 NE Day Rd W.

Candidates Answer Questions on Affordable Housing Issues

Housing Resources Bainbridge (HRB) held a candidate forum at the Bainbridge Library and asked City Council candidates where they stand on affordable housing issues.

Maggie Rich of HRB asked questions about their commitment to affordable housing, the link between diversity and affordable housing, what they think about state laws and local changes, the Housing Action Plan, and solutions to barriers to affordable housing.

Dick Haugan also participated as he is running against incumbent Kristen Hytopoulos; they both will advance to the general election in November.

Survey on Incentives to Switch to Electric Lawn Tools

Gas-powered landscaping equipment can contribute to noise and air pollution with negative health impacts, especially for workers using this equipment for several hours a day.

The City recently transitioned to having staff use only electric leaf blowers, string trimmers, hedge clippers, pole saws, and lawn edgers, with electric chainsaws coming soon.

COBI is interested in hearing from residents and businesses about incentives to switch from gas-powered landscaping equipment to electric equipment on Bainbridge Island; there are two surveys available online through July 31: one for residents and one for local landscaping services on the island.
