Tornado, Weather Relief Efforts Continue

St. Tammany’s resilience is evident following the damage caused by last week’s weather and tornado. Social media is filled with the efforts by so many who lent a hand, whether serving food, providing shelter, rescuing pets, removing debris or more. And these efforts continue.
If you or someone you know had damage, remember to complete a Damage Assessment Survey. This information follows FEMA criteria for preliminary damage assessments, and completion will speed up capturing damage across our area. The information collected will be very beneficial in the recovery process.

Work to Begin on Potential Rewrite of State Constitution

The bill providing for a Constitutional Convention, HB800, is being considered by the House and Governmental Affairs Committee today. The committee will be armed with an initial set of recommendations from Gov. Jeff Landry’s transition team on how to change the current constitution. That team chiefly wants lawmakers to consider moving parts of the constitution that govern the state’s judiciary such as rules for state appeals courts, parish district attorneys and the Judiciary Commissionto statute, which means lawmakers may change it later without a vote of the public.
