Parish Seeks Feedback on Road Plan

The Parish is seeking public feedback on the draft of its first Multi-Modal Transportation Plan which seeks to improve safety on existing infrastructure and identify locations for new roads in our communities. This initiative is the first of its kind in the history of St Tammany Parish and part of the effort to invest in its infrastructure. Learn more about the plan here.

Issues Making News
State's Crime-Focused Special Legislative Session Underway

Gov. Landry called his second special session of the legislature since taking office. Yesterday, legislators convened in Baton Rouge to focus on crime and public safety. Included in the bills and topics to be debated are death penalty method expansion, parole restrictions, repeal of the state’s “raise the age” law, tougher penalties for certain crimes, and legal protections for police. The session could last until March 6. Read more here.
New Tool Available to Understand Property Taxes

The Bureau of Governmental Research developed a new tool—interactive online property tax dashboards—to help answer common questions residents and property owners in Orleans, Jefferson and St. Tammany have about property taxes. Find out your tax rate, how a home’s value changes its tax bill, where property tax monies go and more. Click here to learn more and use the dashboards.

New Online Option Simplifies Filing Process

Business owners can now file the required LAT-5 or Personal Property Report online. The St. Tammany Parish Assessor’s Office is offering an online filing option through a third-party company, Just Appraised. The option is available only to non-leasing companies at this time. Business owners received their forms in the mail last week, and on their forms, they each received a PIN to log in and get started.

Choose Foods That Fight Inflammation

What is inflammation? How does our body accumulate inflammation? Inflammation is the body’s defense mechanism. When the body undergoes various forms of stress the immune system aids in the repair of our damaged cells. The body needs certain amounts of inflammation for normal function. However, chronic inflammation can lead to the development of diseases such as autoimmune disease, cardiovascular disease, neurological disorders, or cancer. This is why it is important to manage stress, get quality sleep for 8 hours or more, limit alcohol consumption, maintain a healthy weight and include anti-inflammatory foods in your diet daily.
