WINTERGREEN TOWNHOMES SUBDIVISION PUBLIC HEARING
THURSDAY AFTERNOON AT 1
The next step for the project to bring dozens of new affordable housing units to the Island goes up before the Public Hearing Examiner this week.

Public attendance and comment, both written and live are very much encouraged.

KITSAP COUNTY CONFERENCE ON HUMAN RIGHTS THIS WEEKEND
The 31st iteration of the annual event which will run from 9am to 3pm on Saturday December 11.

The theme of this year's (virtual) event is "Calling the Circle for Restorative Justice."

There is no charge to attend but pre-registration is required.

STATE REDISTRICTING SAGA DEFAULTS TO SUPREME COURT
Bainbridge Island may now have dodged the bullet with regard to being lumped into a Seattle electoral district, but Bremerton remains divided, and the appointed commission managed to turn their maps in late, so final decision now belongs to the State Supreme Court.

Investigations have also revealed procedural irregularities on the part of the committee and led to multiple accusations of the current system being flawed on many levels.

WA COVID RELIEF FLEX FUND SECURES ADDITIONAL FUNDING
The Small Business Flex Fund provides access to working capital to those that need it most – smaller, local business and nonprofits with fewer than 50 employees and annual revenue of less than $3 million.

The fund recently announced a new $40 Million funding round of low interest loans up to $150,000 for:
  • Payroll
  • Utilities & rent
  • Marketing & advertising
  • Building improvements or repairs









TRIBAL LEADERS SUMMIT WITH BIDEN WHITE HOUSE SETS STAGE FOR HISTORIC COLLABORATION
Tribal leaders from around the United States joined top leaders from the Biden/Harris administration last week to discuss wide ranging issues affecting Tribal nations and nation-to-nation collaboration.

Suquamish Chairman Leonard Forsman spoke on the urgency of responding to the climate crisis.

LOCAL COVID UPDATES
KITSAP, ISLAND COVID RATES HOLDING STEADY
COVID-19 cases in Kitsap County have seen a significant drop with 83 cases per 100,000 residents.

However, health officials nationwide are warning us not to relax our guard with the new Omicron variant on the rise.

Island numbers are down from 40 to 28 cases per 100,000 (moderate transmission), with local vaccination rates now reaching 91% for those aged 12 and above (+ 13% of 5-11).

Since the start of the pandemic have been 643 total cases on the Island, 5 of them new since last week.

One more Bainbridge Booster Clinic has been announced for Saturday 12/11 at Commodore (and a pediatric-only clinic will be precede it this weekend on 12/4 & 12/5)
