ELECTION NEWS
VOTE YES!

During the Chamber board meeting last week, there was a vote of support for the renewal of the public health millage on the runoff ballot.

There was a lengthy discussion. Among the points considered were: neither our businesses nor our community can prosper if we don’t provide this funding; the renewal of this longstanding tax helps the most needy, which in turn helps our community and our businesses. Small Businesses Should Act Against Cyber Threats

Small business owners need to be active participants in their own protection from cyber threats. The panel of experts participating in the Small Business Council’s Roundtable on "Cybersecurity" emphasized this message along with the need to have a cybersecurity plan in place—and continuously work on the plan. Resources are available online and in person with cyber professionals to enable businesses to take responsibility for protecting themselves, their employees and their clients. The roundtable discussion was recorded and will be made available in the near future.

Ernst Denhartigh with The Alternative Board New Orleans North West moderated our expert panel, including:

Rene Miller with Ener Systems
Special Agent Josh Marrow with the FBI
Reginald Darby with Ochsner
David Shapiro with Northshore Robotics

We thank these participants and also thank Ener Systems and Citizens National Bank for sponsoring the roundtable.
NYP Discusses Board Membership

Following your passion and showing up to serve were two of the many great takeaways from yesterday’s speakers discussing “Leadership 101: How to Serve on a Board” with young professionals. Hopefully, many of those attending will be inspired to discover a cause they're passionate about and make a positive impact in our community.

We appreciate these speakers for their genuine responses and openness about the commitment to serving on a board.
