Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser Talks Tourism, Impact on Local Economy

In the tourism and hospitality industry, marketing is important because it helps bring visitors to our area, which in turn not only benefits our local businesses but our residents as well. Did you know that if were not for the state and local taxes paid by tourists visiting St. Tammany, each family residing here would have to pay an additional $1,000 a year in taxes to maintain our current services?

Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser shared this fact at a recent Chamber luncheon, sponsored by the St. Tammany Parish Tourist and Convention Commission (STPTCC) and the Southern Hotel, in celebration of National Travel and Tourism Week. Click here to continue reading.

Getting preventive care reduces the risk for diseases, disabilities and death—but for a variety of reasons, many people don’t get the preventive care they need. For many, lack of awareness about recommended preventive services is a barrier to not getting the preventive care needed to live a healthy life. If you missed last week’s webinar, click here or above to learn about “Preventive Screening and Early Detection: The Impact on Employees and Employers” from Dr. Hill with St. Tammany Health System and Dr. Maronge with Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center.
