DA Candidates Discuss Issues

Last week Vincent Wynne (left) and Collin Sims (right) participated in our District Attorney Candidate Forum moderated by Andy Canulette, editor of The St. Tammany Farmer and The Tammany Picayune. They are vying to win the remainder of the term of 22nd Judicial District Attorney Warren Montgomery, who passed away in November. Sims is the interim District Attorney. The forum was covered by local media, enabling members not in attendance and the public to be better informed when voting in the upcoming election. Highlights found in following news coverage:

Insurance Changes on the Way to Fix Crisis

Louisiana's Recent Job Growth, Outlook Strong

The job growth over the last four quarters in Louisiana was the biggest in nearly 20 years, one economist noted. The state gained nearly 40,000 jobs over the previous 12 months, the largest gain since 1996-1997, and is expected to gain at least another 27,000 over the next 12 months. Parish Council Proposes Oversight of Coroner's Office Finances

In a resolution introduced last week, the St. Tammany Parish Council is proposing to take fiscal control away from the parish Coroner's Office in a move the council says is motivated by good government practices. Council members said nearly every parish government in Louisiana has this kind of oversight over the coroner’s budget. Read more here.
