‣The number one concern of 75% of respondents is the increase in homeowners insurance. Sixty-eight percent are concerned about infrastructure, including roads and drainage; 39% distrust the government; and 38% believe there is a need for affordable housing.
‣When asked about reducing the number of parish council districts from 14, 36% are not sure, which tells us there is a need for voter education. As your voice of business, our plan is to provide this education.
‣With important elections just three months away we asked our members about their awareness of the Chamber’s Political Action Committee (PAC). Seventy-eight percent indicated their awareness of the ChamberPAC with 89% indicating they will take the ChamberPAC’s endorsements into consideration when casting their votes this fall. The ChamberPAC board will invest a significant amount of time into candidate questionnaires and interviews before making endorsement decisions. Additionally, our Advocacy and Public Policy Committee plans to conduct online interviews with all local candidates and place the recordings on our YouTube Channel. This is in an effort to educate and hopefully increase voter turnout, which has been an ongoing concern in recent elections for failed tax renewals negatively impacting several governmental entities.
‣Ninety percent report that the widening of I-12 between Highway 59 and Highway 21 positively impacts their quality of life.
We intend to send another survey and encourage our members to respond.
