President's Message
As we look forward to this week's Chamber Annual Dinner and Awards, I think of the individuals and organizations we will recognize. Our honorees this year are models of strong ethics, integrity and high principle. I recall from the book, "Doing the Right Thing," (written by one of my favorite people, Jim Elsberry and his brother) that "true humility is based on self-confidence and character, and that there is always something new to be learned if we listen carefully enough." The Elsberry brothers know humility lets us learn life lessons from failure. They know that arrogance and pride can destroy our hopes and dreams, but the power of humility can lead to success in the toughest of times. Our honorees are not boastful about what they do - they are natural leaders.
Jean Schober Morrell, selected as the Leann Anderson Community Care Award winner, is the model of doing the right thing. She has always put this community first and service first.
The work of the Community Foundation Serving Greeley- Weld County and United Way of Weld County set the bar high for all of us. Their willingness to collaborate, understanding that working together to support the community is what community is all about, make them our champions.
Our Young Entrepreneur winner Brian Seifried, owner of the Wing Shacks, knows how to push the limits and take risks. Brian has never felt a sense of entitlement - he has worked hard to create a vision and a successful business model.
Susan Arbini, with Banner Occupational Health, was selected as Ambassador of the Year for her years of service and serving as 2013 Ambassador Chair. She has balanced her "real job" with her Chamber volunteer work to join us for ribbon cuttings and to establish relationships with our new members. She participates with enthusiasm and the understanding of how important it is to connect businesses in order to foster a strong local economy.
Our community is rich with amazing businesses and individuals.
