Ten Minutes of Torah: Chukat Balak

URJ commentary by: Rabbi Leah R. Berkowitz. This week, we read the story of Balaam, a sorcerer hired by the Moabite king to curse the Israelites. This tale contains several puzzling elements: a talking donkey, an angel with a fiery sword, and a non-Israelite sorcerer who becomes God’s mouthpiece... More!

TBC's Pride Shabbat and Program

June 23, 2023

Many TBC congregants and friends joined in last week's Pride Shabbat at TBC. After Cantor Harriet's inspiring service, congregants Jeffrey Busch and Stephen Davis spoke about the alarming challenges to the LGBTQ+ community that have surged over the last two years. They also highlighted the very real signs of progress that can be seen in Wilton, the U.S. and worldwide. They were then joined by Farah Masani, head and co-founder of the new Wilton Pride organiation, who shared her vision for the group and for Wilton.

Here are links to the service siddur, slide presentation and related materials that were shared during the evening:

(The oneg afterwards was overstuffed with dangerous but delicious deserts. And Val Rosenson baked the most extraordinary rainbow challah anyone had ever seen or tasted! See picture below....)

It is traditional to light a memorial candle at home on the eve of the yahrzeit. You may also find it meaningful while kindling the yahrzeit candle to offer prayers of remembrance or reflect on your loved one’s life. Many also choose this time to make monetary donations in memory of loved ones

Yahrzeit Memorial Plaques

When remembering loved ones who have passed away, we invite you to commemorate their lives and blessings with a memorial plaque for the TBC wall of remembrance. Ordering information is available here.

A reminder that the Federation for Jewish Philanthropy of Upper Fairfield County schedules a variety of programs that TBC members will find interesting.

Their calendar of upcoming events is available here. Those wishing to receive their weekly mailing list will find the registration form here.
