Rabbi Aaron Leib

Rashi, in the beginning of this week’s special maftir laining explains that there were actually two different times Bnei Yisrael had to donate a half shekel. One of them was for purchasing communal offerings after the establishment of the Mishkan (this is the reason we read it every year in advance of Chodesh Nissan, since it was collected during Adar), but when was the other collection? The first donation, according to Rashi, went toward the building fund for the Mishkan. What was the significance of this donation? Additionally, why were they limited to donating a half a shekel per person when other contributions were not limited by how much each person could give?

Because of the long Mincha on Thursday, March 21 (Taanit Esther), the middle and high schoolers might be 2-3 minutes late in leaving the building.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Dear Farber Hebrew Day School Community,

The Nomination committee of the Farber Hebrew Day School Board of Directors is seeking candidates for new board members. The Board is the governing body of the school, responsible for ensuring the fulfillment of its mission and financial sustainability. There is no requirement that a board member be a parent of a student at Farber Hebrew Day School. In fact, we encourage candidates from across our entire community to apply. If you are a parent, you must be in good financial standing to serve as a board member. Board members will be elected for a three-year term starting in June 2024. Board members are expected to participate fully in monthly board meetings, sit on committees, and be an advocate for the school in all areas. Board responsibilities include, but are not limited to, setting the annual budget, assisting with fundraising efforts, and discussing large-scale changes to the school culture or education.

If you are interested, please complete the nomination application which can be found HERE no later than March 15. If you know someone who may be interested in serving on the board, please encourage them to apply.  There are currently a limited number of vacancies available.

Please note, there may be more interest in serving on the Board than there are available spots. Factors such as ensuring diversity of board members’ skills are taken into consideration when selecting Board members. When applying, please be sure to provide us with your skills and interests.

The final slate of candidates will be proposed to the board during the April 2024 Board meeting, and then voted on by the parent body.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact Miri Gertner HERE
