Rabbi Ari Steinig

When Rav Shimon Schwab was twenty years old, he merited to meet the Chofetz Chaim in Radin. When he asked the great Tzadik for a bracha, the Chofetz Chaim asked him if he was a Kohen or Levi. Rav Schwab responded that he was a Yisroel. The Chofetz Chaim asked him why are you not a Kohen or Levi? Rav Schwab answered that he is a Yisrael because his father was a Yisrael. The Chofetz Chaim then asked Rav Schwab why wasn't your father a Kohen or a Levi. A very puzzled Rav Schwab answered that his father’s father wasn't a Kohen. The Chofetz Chaim then went on to explain to the young Rav Shwab the reason behind his questions:

When Moshe came down from Har Sinai in this week’s Parsha and saw the Jewish people worshipping the Golden Calf, he called out to the Jewish People

מִי לַה’ אֵלָי- Whoever is for ‘ה come here! After he called this out, only Shevet Levi came forward.

Using a variety of liquids and a graduated cylinder, students in Mr. Barnes’ Chemistry classes, carefully poured and measured these substances to create a density column. They then placed different objects into their column and recorded how far they sank. Through their observations and research after, students learned about both the concepts, and the relationships between, density, buoyancy, viscosity and specific gravity.
