PARASHAT BERESHIT

Dr. Josh Levisohn

This is such a rich parashah and under normal circumstances, I would find something interesting or inspiring to say about the parashah itself. However, a friend of mine in Israel pointed out to me the following verses from the haftarah for Bereshit (which, unfortunately, we won’t be saying this year because we will read מחר חודש…) Sometimes, the Navi needs no more comment or explanation:

FARBER STANDS WITH ISRAEL

There has been a lot of learning at Farber this week and there has been a lot of davening, making cards, signs and videos for chayalim and their families. On Monday before we came back to school, the Bnot Sherut hosted an event to make cards and perform mitzvot including Hafrashat Challah. On Tuesday morning we had a beautiful program with Tehilim and songs led by Rabbi Moshe and Shayna Davis, the Bnot Sherut, and the Hebrew Department. We have worn blue and white and we have connected with our friends, alumni, and students who are in Israel right now. On Friday, our High Schoolers joined with almost 10,000 other students at 45 other schools around the country to say Tehillim and sing Acheinu and Hatikvah together. We are consistently showing that Farber Stands with Israel!!

BARUCHIM HABAIM!

We had a big week of visitors. We were happy to welcome Avi Smith and Loren Jacobs to come speak to our Seniors about future professional opportunities and we welcomed Daniela Guzman from the University of Michigan.
