PARSHAT SHEMOT
Morah Tikvah Ellis
This week, we are starting to read a new book of the Torah. I always find it exciting to start Sefer Shmot, to have another opportunity to hear and learn such a fascinating and important story.
But what is Sefer Shmot? The English name of the book is Exodus. That name originates from the Septuagent, an ancient Greek translation of the Tanach. And it makes sense. The word, exodus, means: a mass departure of people. And the mass departure of Bnai Yisrael from Egypt, is both a central theme of the book, and a central theme of Judaism.

"SWEET HEART" PROJECT
Gil-ad Sha’er was one of the 3 boys kidnapped and murdered while on their way home from school in Gush Etzion in 2014. Gil-ad liked to bake chocolate chip cookies. In his memory, his family established the “Sweet Heart” Project. Each year, on his birthday, the 19th of Tevet, people from all over the world make cookies and give them to other people to help them feel sweetness in their heart.
Thank you Roni and Ravid, our Bnot Sherut, for organizing such a meaningful project !

NAVI MIDTERM
For the midterm in Mr. Digadker’s Navi class, the students gave oral presentations. They shared why they chose certain verses from משלי (Proverbs)… explained the verses, shared commentaries on them- from Rashi, Sforno, Or Chayim and Metzudat David, and then they explained why they found these verses meaningful or important.

SPORTS UPDATE
Jonas Singer
This week was filled with Farber basketball games. On Monday the 5th-6th and 7th-8th grade teams traveled to Liggett to play in both teams' first game since winter break. In both games the break from basketball seemed to be a factor. Farber lost both games by large margins. On Tuesday, the 7th-8th, JV, and Varsity teams all faced off at home against the Eton Bulldogs. The middle schoolers were happy to get back in the win column after taking care of business against Eton for the second time this season. In the JV game after going down a few points in the first half, Abie Gardin along with Eli Schwartz were able to help rally the team to a well earned victory. The Farber varsity team played in the final game of Tuesday night. The team struggled to put points on the board in the first quarter of the game. Avi Selesny’s 20 points was enough to push the Farber squad to a 13 point victory. The last games of the week were played on Thursday. The 7th and 8th grade team played their third game of the week, this time they mathed up against Cranbrook. The team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, getting their second win of the week. The Girls played their only game this week against Wise. The Farber team kept it close the entire game but ended up losing by a score of 40 - 33. The teams are looking forward to more Farber basketball coming next week.
We have a big week next week!!!!
Get ready to cheer for the Farber Fire!!!
