Dear Centre County Democrats,
Joe Biden, one of the truly great humans in America, a man who spent more than 50 years in public service to this country, the man who led us back from the brink after four chaotic years under Donald Trump, stepped aside today as the Democratic nominee. It was a selfless decision, and millions of Americans who love Joe Biden--myself included--are both heartbroken
and grateful for his leadership.
Joe Biden put love of country above all else. He made the difficult decision to pass the baton—because at the end of the day, the Democratic Party is not a cult. We are driven by democratic principles, a deep belief in the American people, and an unshakeable commitment to democracy—not fealty to a single person.
Joe Biden’s presidency will go down in history as one of the most accomplished and consequential. As presidential historian Jon Meacham said, “This decision tells us an enormous amount about the character of the incumbent…about what he truly values. President Biden has decided that his campaign is not about him; it’s about us. It’s not about personal ambition; it’s about the durability and viability of the Constitutional order that so many of us believe could be in danger.”
As fate would have it, President Biden reached the pinnacle of power late in life—and exactly when America needed him. Against staggering odds, he passed historic legislation that improved the lives of millions of Americans and guided an economic recovery that is the envy of the world. We have benefited enormously from his wisdom earned through a lifetime of service
and the example of his resilience and empathy forged in personal tragedy.
This is what real leadership looks like.
When the Democratic Party convenes in Chicago on August 19, we will be UNITED to honor President Biden’s sacrifice and legacy! Thank you, President Joe Biden, for leading us out of the darkness, for standing in the breach against Trump’s “big lie,” for all that you have done—and will continue to do—at this critical moment in the life of our nation.
