Research Highlights

Sydney A. Axson, PhD, MPH, RN

Assistant Professor

As an SSRI faculty fellow, Dr. Axson will work with mentors Dr. Nikki Hill (College of Nursing) and Dr. Ling Rothrock (College of Engineering) to create an interdisciplinary environment in which to expand her research program. The goals of this fellowship are to 1) gain expertise in implementing eye-tracking methodology into clinical research settings with older adult participants and 2) leverage newly gained expertise to plan and launch a pilot study exploring the feasibility of utilizing mobile eye-tracking equipment to study informed consent with older adults. The penultimate goal of this line of inquiry is to increase informed consent's patient-centeredness, accessibility, and portability for specific populations of older adults, including those at risk for experiencing cognitive impairment.
