Black people living in rural areas of North Carolina were found to have better mental health than white people despite their exposure to various forms of racism and discrimination. This paradoxical finding, one of the first to explore this relationship and has implications for other areas of the country, was reported by researchers at Georgetown University and their colleagues online in the journal Social Science & Medicine: Mental Health. The research was led by Caroline Efird, PhD, a Racial Justice Institute Fellow.

Results from a pair of clinical trials published in recent months have changed the treatment landscape for people with advanced melanoma, offering a clearer path for improved survival. The studies, conducted at Georgetown Lombardi and other cancer centers around the country, explored the best treatment options and timing for people with advanced melanoma.
