RISE AGAINST HUNGER MEAL PACKAGING
EVENT SET FOR MAY 18 AT NEW DOVER UMC
Almost half of all childhood deaths worldwide occur in children with malnutrition. Every day of the year, 30,000 children needlessly die of hunger and malnutrition. One of the innovative ways that Rise Against Hunger, an international hunger relief organization, is working to combat this grim statistic is through meal packaging events. New Dover United Methodist Church is hosting one of these events on Saturday, May 18, with a goal of packaging 30,000 balanced and nutritious meals for at risk people around the world.
At a Rise Against Hunger meal packaging event, community volunteers come together to form an assembly line that packages highly nutritious dehydrated meals consisting of rice, soy, vegetables, and 23 essential vitamins and minerals. These packaged meals, contained in small plastic bags, are used to support school feeding programs in developing countries around the world. To see what happens at one of these events, google "Rise Against Hunger Meal Packaging Event" and scroll down and click on one of the short educational videos.
There are two shifts available for the New Dover UMC meal packaging event on May 18. The first shift is from 9 to 11 a.m., and the second from 12 to 2 p.m. Children are welcome to participate. If you would like to take part in this hands-on international hunger relief program, sign up at the display table in the church narthex. If you have any questions, contact me.
