BIG EQUITY FUND'S 2ND ANNUAL CELEBRATION!

Thank you for attending the BIG Celebration on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 in honor of Black Philanthropy Month!

We had a wonderful evening celebrating Black Philanthropy Month with the Black Investments in Greensboro (BIG) Equity Fund. BIG's mission is to pool resources and leverage capital to break down systems that result in socioeconomic disparities in the Black community.

Our guests had the honor of hearing a conversation between Adrienne Brooks (Director of Advancement, Emerita at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture) and Tracey McCain (two-time Emmy Award Winning Journalist and Motivational Speaker) about the power of Black philanthropy.  With a $3m target for the initial endowment, BIG is a sustainable vehicle for the Black community to create a multi-generational legacy that addresses issues of social justice and inequity.

DONOR PORTAL HAS A NEW LOOK!

The new Donor Portal is now available! Click here to take a look.

Over the past year, your CFGG team, across many different departments, has been working hard to transition to CommunitySuite (CSuite), a cloud-based system specially designed for Community Foundations. This transition will provide you with a much better donor portal that will give you access to real-time fund information, shared documents, as well as make it easier to submit grant recommendations.

HUBERT B. HUMPHREY JR. AWARD

Congratulations to Southeastern Guilford High School, this year’s Hubert B. Humphrey Jr. School Improvement Award recipient!

The Humphrey Award is designed to “enhance a comprehensive school improvement plan that supports collaboration and leads toward improved student achievement.” A selection committee reviews certain academic metrics and considers how each school plans to engage the community, serve diverse student populations and improve student outcomes.

Hubert B. “Hugh” Humphrey was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation. In November 2003, the Hubert B. Humphrey Jr. School Improvement Award was created to honor his dedication. The Foundation established a fund at the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro, which is used each year to support the cash award.

SARAH BRITT - Development Manager

Sarah is a lifelong resident of Greensboro. She is a two-time graduate of UNC Greensboro, earning both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Communication Studies, focusing on storytelling and empowerment within nonprofit organizations. She has spent her entire career in nonprofits, overseeing marketing and fundraising operations as the Development and Communications Manager for North Carolina African Services Coalition and as a Director of Development for Victory Junction.

She has also spent time volunteering with various human rights organizations in Uganda, Thailand, and Romania. Outside of work, Sarah enjoys reading, crocheting, playing video games, and gardening. She and her husband Dallas have two children, Milo and Lorelai, and love spending the weekends exploring all the different parks around Greensboro together.

Fun fact: Sarah’s cat, Tirian, is a Bengal mix who was rescued after being processed as evidence from a crime scene in New Orleans.

KELSEY MCSWAIN - Database and Donor Engagement Assistant

Kelsey grew up in the Cary/Apex area of North Carolina but fell in love with the city of Greensboro during her time attending UNCG majoring in Elementary and Special Education. She has always had a desire to help others and her passion to make an impact in the community continues to grow.

In her free time, Kelsey loves spending time with her family and friends, travelling, watching her favorite shows, playing board games, and dining at local restaurants with her husband, Adam.

Fun facts: Kelsey considers herself a “cat person” and her cat, Louis, is named after Louis Armstrong. She also loves all things Disney!
