A Word From Mark

Dear Friends of WTLC,

Women's History Month is a time we celebrate the contribution women have made throughout history and continue to make in our society today. This month provides us with an opportunity to recognize and honor the women who have paved the way for progress and to inspire future generations of women to continue making a difference in their communities and the world.

Throughout history, women have faced countless obstacles and discrimination in their pursuit of equality and respect. However, despite these challenges, women have made remarkable contributions to society in various fields, including science, technology, politics, education, arts, and more. Women have played a vital role in shaping our world, and their contributions deserve to be celebrated and

remembered.

In the early 20th century, women fought for the right to vote, and through their hard work and perseverance, the 19th Amendment was passed in 1920. Since then, women have made significant strides in breaking barriers and shattering glass ceilings in various industries. Women such as Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Malala Yousafzai, Kamala Harris, and countless others have made their mark in history by advocating for equal rights and fighting for justice.

However, women continue to face challenges such as the gender pay gap, discrimination, and inequality in various areas of society. It is up to all of us to continue advocating for women's rights and working towards a more equitable future for all.

As we celebrate Women's History Month, let us remember the women who have made a difference in our world and honor their legacy by continuing to fight for equality and justice. Let us inspire the next generation of women to continue breaking down barriers and making a difference in their communities and the world.

With appreciation,

Mark

From Surviving to Thriving: Kim's Journey with Radiant Futures

When Kim found herself in a difficult situation, she took action and made some bold choices. She left her abusive husband and filed for a restraining order to protect herself and her young son. But she didn't stop there - she knew that healing and growth were possible, and she was eager to learn more.

That’s when she was referred to Radiant Futures and started attending PEP classes. Through this program, she gained valuable insights and strategies for breaking the cycle of violence and building healthy relationships. But Kim didn’t stop there – she also sought out additional support from Radiant Futures Legal Advocacy Services.

The veil of violence against women has been lifted - or has it?

After decades of being written out of history, women were gifted one week in 1982 to celebrate “Women’s History Week.” Later, in 1987 after a full 5 years of highlighting the accomplishments of women for a paltry 7 days, the week was extended to an entire month.

Just years before the first nationally recognized celebration of the labors of women and their contributions to society came to be each March, the Battered Women’s Movement of the 1970’s coexisted among several other civil rights and social justice movements of the time. Most, if not all, of these movements, were supported and guided by the efforts of women, who, behind the scenes, were responsible for uplifting the dominant male voices of the struggles, feeding protesters, providing childcare, and community organizing which were critical to the success of these movements.
