Trenton, NJ – August 18, 2023 – The African American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey's (AACCNJ) Mobile Academy announces the successful completion of its third cohort of the NJ Kids4 Coding program. This four-week summer initiative, held at the Capital Area YMCA in Trenton, New Jersey, witnessed the participation of 10 eager and talented students as they delved into the realm of video game creation.
Embracing a hands-on approach, the students immersed themselves into the intricate process of game development, demonstrating unwavering enthusiasm as they harnessed the power of their imagination to craft unique iterations of the iconic game, Pong. As the project unfolded, their proficiency in coding and design flourished, culminating in a showcase that highlighted not only their technical prowess but also their creative individuality. “This journey was a vivid testament to the potent combination of immersive learning and boundless imagination, leaving an indelible mark on their understanding of coding and the art of bringing ideas to life,” commented Neha Shah, CEO of NJSTEM. Guided by NJSTEM instructors, each game has the potential to be enjoyed domestically and across the globe.
The NJ Kids4 Coding program stands as a testament to the AACCNJ Mobile Academy's steadfast dedication to empowering African-American students in underserved communities. "We recognize that providing access to STEM education is pivotal in enabling all children to shape their futures, irrespective of their background. The NJ Kids4 Coding program not only introduces these brilliant young minds to the world of technology but also equips them with essential skills to thrive in a digital-centric world," emphasized John E. Harmon, Sr., IOM, Founder, President, and CEO of AACCNJ.
The success of the NJ Kids4 Coding program was made possible through the generous support of AACCNJ’s President’s Club member, AT&T, who underwrote this summer's initiative and donated to the participants backpacks filled with school supplies. “Congratulations to the students, instructors, and organizers of the AACCNJ Mobile Academy’s third NJ Kids4 Coding cohort,” said Joseph Divis, State President-NJ, AT&T. “Ensuring our state’s young people have the digital skills and support to succeed in school and in life is fundamental to AT&T’s commitment to education and shrinking the digital divide. Thank you to the AACCNJ for this opportunity to expand our membership collaboration in such an important program.”
As the third cohort of the NJ Kids4 Coding program concludes, the AACCNJ Mobile Academy remains focused on nurturing educational excellence, fostering innovation, and promoting inclusivity for the upcoming generation of leaders.
