Beloved FUMC,
With the Olympic opening ceremony upon us today, I am excited to finally watch all of the events of this extraordinary athletic experience! Each athlete has prepared for this once-in-a-lifetime moment and has likely overcome great odds and setbacks to show up on this world stage. This Sunday, we will take on the second sermon of this three-part series “Going for the Gold” and focus on overcoming setbacks when they happen in our lives. We will continue to explore the narrative of King David from 2 Samuel 11:1-15 (NRSV), a beloved leader, chosen by God, who was still …well, human. How do we look at David’s example as a reflection of our own life experience? What can we learn from his missteps as we overcome our own, and ultimately, what is at risk when we do not abide in God’s will for our lives?
We are looking forward to hearing from our guest preacher, Brian Lamb. Brian is a candidate for deacon orders in the Virginia United Methodist Conference. He is a lifelong United Methodist and grew up at Fredericksburg UMC. Brian attended Wesley Theological Seminary, receiving his Master of Divinity in 2018. He has pastored churches in Albemarle County and most recently served as a contract chaplain with Mary Washington Healthcare. Presently he is teaching high school business at Courtland High School in Spotsylvania County. He is discerning with both his school administration and the conference to have his role as a teacher be his ministry setting once he is commissioned as a deacon.
Have a wonderful weekend, enjoy the games, and we will see you on Sunday!
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Chelsea
Please note: Pastor Tim is still on vacation for the next 2 weeks, and will resume his Thursday table talk at Agora Coffee shop on August 8th.

Come 5 minutes early for announcements!
The SPRC has been receiving feedback from the congregation about the length of Sunday morning Worship.
In listening and assessing the feedback, the pastors are being more intentional about curtailing, to meet the needs of the congregation.
Lay Leaders are STARTING ANNOUNCEMENTS 5 MINUTES BEFORE SERVICES. Worship will begin with the Prelude/Opening Songs. This will help balance what worship needs to include as well as the timing desired.
Please spread the word to folks and come a little earlier, as we come together to worship the Lord.

GREEN TIPS
Easy things to do to be better Caretakers of God’s Creation!!.
To conserve energy and water, reduce pollution, and save money, start with cooking practices. Use a saucepan that matches the size of your burner to avoid wasting energy. Cut food into small pieces for faster cooking and cover pans with lids to speed up heating. These small steps in reducing fuel/energy usage can contribute to mitigating global warming.
