New Chapter Begins at Connecticut Community Foundation as Kathy Taylor is Named its Next CEO | |
Connecticut Community Foundation's board of trustees announced on April 8 the appointment of Kathy Taylor as the organization's next president and Chief Executive Officer. Taylor, currently a professor at CT State Community College, Naugatuck Valley and a former chair of the Foundation's board of trustees, will succeed Julie Loughran, who plans to step down from the position in June after ten years at the Foundation, more than six of them as its leader.
Taylor will be only the fourth CEO in the history of the 100-year-old Foundation, which operated as a volunteer-driven entity until Ingrid Manning became its first staff member and leader in the early 1980s.
Taylor brings a wealth of experience to her new role. A graduate of Hampton University and the University of Connecticut School of Law, she has been a professor of legal studies at Connecticut State Community College (formerly Naugatuck Valley Community College) for 17 years. During her tenure at the college, Taylor has served as interim associate dean of academic affairs, special assistant to the president, founding director of the Academic Center for Excellence, and president of the Faculty Senate. Outside of the college, she advises nonprofit organizations, corporations, law enforcement agencies, and K-12 school districts on bias, structural barriers, inclusive workplaces, and equitable hiring practices. Taylor lives in Waterbury with her husband and three children.
Taylor will officially assume her new role on June 17.

May 15: FMLA Compliance and Managing Medical Leave Workshop for Employers
Use code WRC2024 for a 15% off Chamber Member Discount
| |
Please join us for this highly interactive half-day workshop where we will tackle one of today’s most challenging areas for employers – FMLA compliance and managing employee medical leave.
We will discuss numerous real-world scenarios that will provide attendees with an understanding of their obligations under the Connecticut and federal FMLA.
The Connecticut FMLA was amended more than two years ago to cover nearly every employer in Connecticut that has at least one employee. Connecticut also implemented a new paid Family and Medical Leave Insurance program. Many employers continue to struggle understanding and complying with these new laws and how they interact with each other, and other federal and state leave laws, such as the federal FMLA, ADA, CFEPA, Workers Compensation Act and pregnancy leave laws.
We are limiting attendance for this workshop in order to have small break-out groups that will work collaboratively on addressing these issues. If you attended our FMLA workshop last year, you will benefit from a review of FMLA obligations as well as full details of recent developments.

Join the Palace Theater as we launch a live storytelling series featuring compelling first person accounts of courage and resilience. The series begins on Saturday, June 1st at 11:00 AM with Hossna Samadi, the Outreach Coordinator for IRIS, an organization that assists refugees in Connecticut during the resettlement process.
Hossna Samadi will offer her unique perspective, detailing her personal journey from Afghanistan to Connecticut. From overcoming obstacles and prejudices to assimilating into a new community, her story serves as testament to the resilience, perseverance, and determination that so many immigrants possess as they work to make a better life in a new country.
Samadi grew up in Kabul, Afghanistan, before relocating with her family to New Haven in 2016. When she first arrived, Samadi took English classes through IRIS, which led to an ongoing relationship with that organization. In 2021, she became an IRIS Ambassador, speaking at a wide range of venues and panels. As the IRIS Outreach Coordinator, she helps educate people about IRIS as well as the challenges and journeys experienced by immigrants and refugees. Additionally, Samadi is the co-founder of the Collective for Refugee & Immigrant Women's Wellbeing, a pilot project that evaluates existing services for refugee women’s mental health and wellbeing in New Haven.
Susan Suhr, the founder of New Start Ministry, will give a brief introduction before the talk, providing some background understanding about refugees and immigrants. New Start Ministry is an interfaith group that works in conjunction with IRIS to co-sponsor refugee families for local resettlement.
