DISABILITY PRIDE MONTH

It's Disability Pride Month, and we are honoring the history, achievements, experiences and struggles of the disability community throughout July.

On July 26, 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law. We are celebrating Disability Independence Day on Friday, July 26 at 11am with a visit from Canine Companions dogs, stories and more!

On Monday, July 22 at 5:45pm, join us for EmpowerAbility: Celebrating Diversity and Access for All. San Mateo County Commission on Disabilities, the Center for Independence of Individuals with Disabilities, Aging and Adult Services, and Redwood City Public Library will present an educational panel on disability resources in the County.

SWEET NEWS - HONEY IS HERE!

It's been a BUZZY week for our RCPL Bees!

If you didn't know, the Downtown Library's roof is home to a colony of honey bees. Our beekeepers harvest the honey and Friends of the Redwood City Public Library resell it to the community. All proceeds benefit library programs. Friends have the latest batch of DELICIOUS summer honey ready! The bees produced over 80 lbs of honey, or 215 jars! Buy it in the Downtown Library Friends Bookstore, located in the lobby.

Our bees not only provided us with honey this week, they also made a special appearance at Lunch with the Library at Sequoia YMCA. Ms. Jennifer captivated the audience with a live demo of an enclosed hive, showcasing how bees collect pollen and more. Lunch with the Library provides enriching and engaging activities following the Sequoia YMCA free summer lunch program. Lunch is served 12-12:30pm. You’ll find us following lunch on Mondays through July 29, from 12:30-1:30pm.

You can watch the library bees hard at work in their hives by clicking here.
