Creating opportunities for people to live, work, & thrive on the Lower Cape
|

Five years ago, the CDP held our first Summer Evening on the Farm fundraising event. Knowing that the summer calendar is full of events for a host of worthy non-profits, we set out to create something different. And I think it is fair to say we've succeeded.
Our annual gathering is a celebration of the work we do at the CDP to create a stronger Lower Cape community by nurturing small businesses and creating more safe, stable and affordable places for people to live. It is also an evening to address the critical funding needs of our organization.
On Wednesday, August 22nd at 5:00 pm we will gather once again at the beautiful Halcyon Farm on Rt. 6A in Brewster. Mac's Seafood, Truro Vineyards, Devil's Purse Brewing and the Local Scoop are all pitching in to fill us with great food, wine, beer and ice cream.

We promise no long speeches or tables filled with silent auction items - just a beautiful night to support the causes we care about, celebrate the beauty of the Lower Cape and the people who make our community so rich.
As always,

A focus on sustainability leads to success
"I'm happier focusing on sustainability than on growth."
Lee Wotherspoon, Quiet Mind Studio
If you catch Lee Wotherspoon during a brief pause behind the desk at her Wellfleet studio, you'll be rewarded with her warm smile and calm presence. Around her, the place is humming with activity-though gently: this is, after all, a yoga and wellness space.
Lee clearly has a success on her hands at Quiet Mind Studio. So it's surprising to hear her say, "I am not, at heart, an entrepreneur."

Getting on the path to home ownership

Eric and Sara Whiteley |
Seeing the connections between business, housing and community: Eric and Sara Whiteley
"What really lifts me is the sense of connection here....not just to my own family...and to people we grew up with, but to community."
Sara Whiteley
Sara and Eric Whiteley are the brother and sister team behind the third generation of W. Vernon Whiteley, Inc. in Chatham. They are also new members of our advisory council with up-close experience in the ways small business success, affordable housing, and community life are interconnected.
The two grew up on the Cape, but left for careers as engineers, with a stop for Eric in the Navy, too. What drew them back in the late 1990s was the chance to help their dad run the plumbing and heating business their grandfather had started in 1952.
Even with a family business to join, they knew that making the move back to the Cape would involve some risks. What if things didn't work out?
