Online Seminar
with Dr. Agnes:
Friday, May 20, 2022
9:00 am-10:30 am (PST)
BriteMinds’ “Beyond Children’s Behavior” online seminar offers a deeper understanding of how the child’s mind works. Dr. Agnes will present practical strategies, scientific literature, video clips, and vignettes to illuminate the hidden world of children’s minds. She will discuss how dormant and invisible triggers may activate adaptive and maladaptive behavior responses often surprising to parents, teachers, and siblings. By the completion of the seminar, participants will be better able to listen to and communicate with children, understand children’s not-so-obvious internal experiences, and facilitate children’s self-regulatory processes more successfully. Zoom link will be sent to registered participants.
Meet Dr. Agnes
Dr. Agnes Regeczkey, LMFT, PhD, is a child, adolescent, and adult psychoanalyst in private practice in Palos Verdes, California. She is the co-founder and director of BriteMinds Learning Center, Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry & the Behavioral Sciences at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, and enjoys teaching with colleagues at the New Center for Psychoanalysis. She serves as a research coordinator at Reiss-Davis Graduate Center, Los Angeles, and with Dr. Joseph Aguayo she is a co-director of the Regional Bion Symposium (RBS). Dr. Agnes is actively involved in academic research, including how childhood sleep disturbances impact development, hypnagogic and hypnopompic hallucinations, and what changes and what stays the same in child development. She presented her developing views at a panel at the APsaA February 2020 Meetings in New York.
COVID Era Insights for Parents
Child development, mental health, and academic performance have been significantly impacted by the distress parents and children have experienced during the COVID-19 lockdown. While families are still learning what this means for them, children and parents can learn how to join forces in their recovery. How do we support children to successfully transition returning to school, seeing friends, responding to teachers, organizing homework, and feeling motivated?
Tips & Techniques for Parents and Children
  • Discuss what it means to transition from online interactions with friends to real-world friendships
  • Use visual organizers and discuss daily & weekly structure – plan fun, creative, and in-person events when it is safely possible
  • Initiate family discussions about: potential fears and beliefs related to COVID, healthy family values including exercising, eating habits, time management, and communication about difficult topics
  • Agree on regular bedtime and wake-up routines
  • Talk about appropriate online behaviors
  • Discuss the impact of 'cool' attitudes and trends children encounter online
  • Negotiate and decide on screen-time related boundaries – more about this at Dr. Agnes' seminar Beyond Children’s Behavioron May 20, 2022
“We are so happy to find BriteMinds after two other tutoring places. The individualized learning plan has been working wonderfully! The instructors always let me know what happened during the lessons and keep my kids organized. They have great communication between tutors and parents. One of our sons has ADHD and he used to be bored, but after about 7 months of enrichment at BriteMinds, he is more confident and motivated. He enjoys learning again and seeing him happy makes our entire family less stressed. Our older son receives homework support and test preparation as we can’t help him with his 8th grade Science and Algebra at home. Another reason we chose BriteMinds is because they offer free parent support. My husband and I are feeling well informed and can also learn how to better support our son at home. Based on our experience, we highly recommend BriteMinds to families dedicated to helping their children succeed!”
