Reflecting on Success: Celebrating Another Remarkable School Year!

As another exciting school year draws to a close, we reflect on the growth, achievements, and memories created by our dedicated students, passionate educators, and supportive community. Let us celebrate the friendships forged, the knowledge gained, and the lasting impact of our collective efforts as we bid farewell to this chapter and look ahead to the next.

Here’s to a successful conclusion and a well-deserved break for all. On behalf of the Qualicum School District, we wish you a safe and restful summer.

GRAD 2024

Indigenous Grad, KSS Hat Toss, PASS Grad, BSS Hat Toss

The Qualicum School District offers a huge congratulations to this year’s graduating class. We are so very proud of all of you, and we join you in looking forward to what comes next. We also want to thank everyone who supported you in your journey, including your family and friends, of course, but especially all of the staff across the district who contributed to your success, both directly and indirectly.

Well done, everyone!

AES Grad Walk

A few weeks prior to commencement, our grads get a chance to try on their graduation attire and visit their former elementary schools to say hello to former teachers and be celebrated by the younger students. This great tradition provides inspiring moments for all across the district.

Indigenous Day Celebrations

National Indigenous People’s Day took place on June 21st. Schools across the Qualicum School District celebrated, assembled, and engaged in activities to recognize Indigenous history and culture.

An Update from our Operations Team

The Qualicum School District has embarked on a multi-year washroom renovation plan. The first phase of this plan started this past week on June 24th at Ballenas Secondary School, with a $600,000 renovation of the existing original change rooms. The multi-year plan will see washroom renovations commence at Kwalikum Secondary School in 2025. As part of the first phase, the student leadership group at Ballenas Secondary School provided input by creating a needs and wants list, which they presented to the Operations and Maintenance leadership team. This feedback was integral to the design of the changeroom renovation plan. Anticipated completion of the project is Friday, September 6th, with new features of the project to include:

  • Wheelchair-accessible doorways
  • Wheelchair-accessible shower stalls
  • Additional toilet cubicle
  • Gender-neutral changeroom/washroom
  • Additional hand wash stations
  • Open layout with new painting
  • New flooring
  • Private changeroom stalls with 8ft privacy partitions
  • New seating
  • New shower stalls with 8ft privacy partitions
  • Water bottle filling station
  • New larger lockers
  • School logo print embedded in new flooring
  • Dedicated staff changeroom/washroom

Winchelsea Learning Centre Mosaic Art

Thank you to the students and staff at Winchelsea Learning Centre who designed and created this piece of mosaic artwork.

This mosaic was made possible through the generous donation of Italian smalti by William Langlois and Michael Melnyk, and grants through the Vancouver Foundation.

We wish to recognize the Oceanside Community Arts Council, McMillan Arts Centre (MAC), and Mosaic artist and instructor Debra Hagan, who worked with students and staff to design and create this wonderful mosaic.
