Feb. 2024 | Volume 55

Note from the Director

After the single digit deep freeze of late January, it's hard to believe my eyes are already seeing daffodils and crocus blooming. Spring is just around the corner and so is our season of new life in the canyon.

Soon we'll have migrating songbirds, Spring Peepers singing, late March wildflowers and plenty of people coming to visit our facility, trails, programs, and concerts.

We hope you've been hearing about the upcoming jazz dinner set for February 16th. Because it's been so popular, it's become an annual event featuring TAD of Jazz from the Anniston area. This regional band has taken the stage by storm and recently played gigs all over the nation.

Musicians Ruben Mitchell, Tyson Hall and Kerwin Allen will return along with several others to provide a memorable evening, complete with great food and good company. For some, it's a perfect Valentine's Day gift but whatever the case, we hope you get your tickets soon as last year we sold out a few days before the show. Click here for tickets.

This year, we'll have more concerts and programs than ever before but as always, we want to hear from you. You can let us know what you like the most by contacting us via email. We also want to know what new programs you'd like to have.

In any case, thanks for your support and we look forward to seeing you soon,

All the best,

Pete Conroy, Director

🌿💚 Embrace Sustainability this Valentine's Day! 💚🌿

This Valentine’s Day let's celebrate love not just for each other, but also for our planet.

How can you be more mindful this year? Think local!

  • If you can’t find locally sourced flowers, how about potted flowers or a plant that can be enjoyed long term?
  • Try buying from a local store this year, such as The Shop at the Canyon Center, shopping local puts your money back into your community and can lower your carbon footprint.
  • Or better yet why buy a physical gift at all? Treat your valentine to dinner and a show at An Evening of Jazz on February 16 or make your sweetheart a gift like a one-of-a-kind basket at our Longleaf Pine needle Basketry Class on February 18th.

🌍💖 Together, we can spread love while taking small steps towards a greener, more eco-friendly future. Happy Valentine's Day! 💖🌍
