Wellness Now: Your Oasis during Challenging Times

My mom doesn't want to send too many emails and one went out last week. But come on, I can't let National Mutt Day slip by so she's letting me do this one! Allow me to be the first to wish you a happy National Mutt Day! I heard that over 3 million dogs end up in shelters every year...14 & a half years ago, I was one of them (but who's counting?). I've heard my parents say I won the lottery but I think they did because having a pet is really good for you. Check out some reasons why below! (And if you miss National Mutt Day today, no worries...there's another on December 2nd. Two Mutt Days in one year? Mutts must be pretty special!)

Benefits of our 4-footed friends

  • Having a dog encourages you to move. Oh look, it's time for walkies!
  • Petting a dog (ok, even a cat) lowers blood pressure.
  • Studies show a pet can help reduce stress, anxiety and loneliness.
  • A dog can lift your spirits. According to a 2019 study, staring into your dog’s eyes can raise levels of oxytocin, aka the “love hormone.”
  • Dogs help people recover from a crisis. Veterans with PTSD do better physiologically and psychologically if they have a service dog.
  • Dogs can improve your social life. Walk a dog and be prepared to make new friends.
  • Feeling down? Dogs always provide unconditional love. Humans might think they take care of their dogs but dogs also take care of their peeps!

Me and my mutt pals...all sitting pretty and happily leaving our paw prints in the sand! 🐾🐾

if you’re not covered in dog hair, your life is empty.”
