...from First Unity of St. Petersburg

Unity Campus

Have you ever thought about asking a friend to come visit First Unity of St. Petersburg to see the place you call your spiritual home, to meet your First Unity friends, to see our unique facility, to hear Reverend Temple speak, to hear the band play and musicians sing to have them gain a better understanding of "what makes you tick" - but you just never seem to get around to doing it? Now is the time....on the first Sunday of each month, we have developed a little tradition at First Unity. It's called "Friendship Sunday" because we encourage congregants to especially reach out to family and friends to invite them to Church.  After Service, join us in Friendship Hall for good fellowship and have a delicious brunch provided by Spice Routes Cafe or take a walk around our campus and explore all the "hot spots" of our campus - The Meditation Garden, The Labyrinth, The Rose Garden, Encore Thrift Shoppe and Wings Bookstore. See you on Sunday!

First Unity represents at St. Pete Pride

Pride
On Saturday, June 29th, members of First Unity braved the stormy weather and marched proudly in the largest LGBT Parade in the Tampa Bay area!  More than 100,000 people came to celebrate diversity and equality and First Unity was there to support as well.  First Unity also had a booth, where we sold our popular Co-Exist t-shirts.  If you were unable to attend the festivities, don't worry, you can still purchase your Co-Exist t-shirt after Sunday Service in the lobby or you can stop by the front office to buy your shirt (727.527.2222).  On behalf of our campus, we would like to THANK all of our staff members, board members and volunteers that helped on Saturday.  It takes dedicated people, like yourselves, to make our campus a success!

Centering Prayer

 What is Centering Prayer?

          • A Prayer of being.
          • When we listen not just with our ears, our eyes, our minds but with our hearts, with our whole being.
          • A deeper, more experiential union with God.

   Steps in Centering Prayer:

  • Settle down, seated with feet on the floor, hands resting in our lap and gently close our eyes.  The point here is to sit comfortably.  If that means crossing your legs then let that be OK.
  • Turn our attention to the presence of God within.  We know by faith that this Presence is within, around and through us.  In love we turn ourselves over to the Lord God of our being.  For the next several minutes, we are God's.  This prayer is a pure gift, a gift of us to the presence of Love within.
  • To abide in the Presence quietly and attentively, use a simple word that expresses our hearts desire in being with the Presence.  Let that word be there.  Silently repeat the word.  This word may be Jesus, Father, Love, and Peace, one that is personally meaningful.  Other examples of Sacred Words that can be used for Centering Prayer are (these are names for God):  Adonai, Elohim, Yahweh, El Shadai, Rabboni, Jesus, Jesu, Dominus, Christi, Christos, Kyrie, Deus, Didaskale, Abba, Amma, Emmanuel, Maranatha.

To find out what the next steps are, visit the Campus Lobby and pick up your copy of Centering Prayer....
