Beyond Monthly Yoga Tip
When it comes to our asana practice, we often wonder — "Am I doing right?"

It's a fair question and understanding that the yoga journey leads us to the experience of the answer is at the core of the practice. In our asana practice we are creating shapes with our bodies and to create these shapes we often rely on the visual — e.g. we look at someone in a posture and try to mimic the same thing.

Yes, there is a technique to the practice and a visual is helpful but there is also an art to the practice and although there are similarities with our bodies, we are all unique. In addition, our body is constantly changing which means doing it right looks different on different bodies and it looks different in our own bodies on different days. When wondering if we are doing it right, asking ourselves the following questions is a good place to start:

  1. Do I feel stable? remembering that there is nothing rigid about stability; and
  2. How is my breath flowing? Is it easeful?
The more we can find the balance between stability and ease the more we will find our individual fit in each posture.
