Celebrate, Dance, Sing

Immerse us in the beauty of your world, from the new greenery of Spring to the warm summer air pulled in from the gulf-shores.

We celebrate the grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Move our souls to the mysterious work of your will in our lives.

We dance to the rhythm of the Holy Spirit.

Awaken our ears to hear the sweetness of our unified voices in this house of worship.

We sing with joy of the goodness of God's ever-lasting love.

Ordination of Ashley Brown

SCAPC’s own Pastoral Resident, Ashley Brown, will be ordained as Minister of Word and Sacrament this Sunday at 4:00 in the Sanctuary and all are invited to attend! A reception hosted by Presbyterian Women will follow in Frampton Fellowship Hall. Childcare will be available. The service will be livestreamed and posted at scapc.org/worship.

From Our New Aden Program Director

Hi I’m Marti McEnery and I’m so excited for my new role with Aden! I am the mother of 3 children, Sam (12), Hap (10), and Mackie (8) all of whom attended SCAPC Nursery School. I’ve spent quite a lot of time around SCAPC between my children attending nursery school and substitute teaching there as well.

Prior to having children I ran the Broadway Club at Lambeth House which was a program for residents living with dementia and I completed my internship for my MA in Counseling with the ACE program (Alzheimer’s Care and Enrichment) at the Jewish Community Center which the Aden program is modeled after. I am so happy to be at Aden! Please feel free to reach out to me (aden@scapc.org) if you have any questions or would like to learn more! View our webpage at scapc.org/aden.

Presbyterian Borderlands Trip November 10-16

In partnership with the Presbyterian Borderlands Ministries, SCAPC is organizing a service and learning trip to the U.S./Mexico Border in the McAllen, Texas area. We will learn first-hand from those living and working along the border the complex dynamics of our southern border. Our purpose will be to build relationships, to bear witness, and to serve others. To view a fact sheet about this trip, click here and/or contact Cindy Bush, cindyfbush@gmail.com.

Thank You from Habitat Unity Build Homeowner

In 2019, several SCAPC members participated in the Habitat for Humanity Unity Build in which a house was built for Latonya Toomer and her family. Latonya recently reached out with the following message:

"Hi pastor. I know it's been a long time since you have heard from me. I just wanted to let you know I was thinking about you and your beautiful congregation. Not sure if you remember me but you helped build my home in the upper 9th ward. Well I have 5 grandkids now and my baby girl Skylar graduates this year. I thank God I got all of them through high school. Well she will be going to Mississippi State...a long way from home. Well I'm not going to hold you long but I will include pictures of my kids and grandkids for you to enjoy and thanks for all the prayers and support. We truly appreciate it."

A Call for Ushers!

Serving as an usher for 10:30 a.m. worship services is one of the most important and enjoyable ways to volunteer for the church. The role can involve anything from passing the offering plates, recording attendance, assisting congregants with special needs, and most importantly, greeting everyone as they gather for worship. Each usher team serves for one month twice a year. We are currently looking for ushers to serve on Team E (May and November). If you are interested in ushering, please contact Geoff Snodgrass at gpsnodgrass@gmail.com

Sunday School Details & Recordings

PHILIPPIANS AND GALATIANS

March 24 - May 19 | Phifer Library

The letters to the Philippian and Galatian congregations illustrate the passion and intensity of Paul's writing. Together these letters provide a compelling portrait of a theologian and social critic of rare power and insight whose legacy continues today to spark heated debate. For the May 5 class recording, click here.

The May 19 class topics will be "New Life in Christ versus Enslavement to the Powers" and "The Vocation of Freedom in the Daily Life of Congregations", led by Larry Hamric.

FAMILY SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS

May 5 - May 19 | Frampton Fellowship Hall

Parents and children are invited to meet in Frampton Fellowship Hall for our Family Sunday School Class. The theme is "Emotions in the Psalms". Each week we will explore a different emotion with lots of activities and projects for families to work on together. We will continue this theme through June 24 with our children 2nd grade and younger during the 9:30 a.m. single worship service. This Sunday's topic will be "A Pentecost Lesson."

Youth Sunday

Here are two photos of our youth after leading our 8:30 and 10:30 worship services on Sunday. Many youth that wrote prayers for the liturgy, ushered, and played parts in both services aren’t pictured here. Over 50 youth touched Youth Sunday in some way, shape, or form. We are incredibly proud of their bravery, insights, and leadership!
