Where can you find the best popcorn in Cave Creek?
February's Answer:
Last month's Bozo in the yellow car wasn't a speeder. He was actually parked in front of Earl's Old Time Candy Shop admiring the sweet treats through the window. See Bozo again HERE in last month's Cave Creek Corner.

Buying is Giving
March is “Spring Cleaning” month which, for many, may include weeding out perfectly good items no longer needed or used. Donating them to local non-profit thrift shops supplies the organization with inventory they need for bringing in sales, and sales = $$$ they can use in supporting our community.
We, in Cave Creek, are fortunate to have seven non-profit (501c3) thrift shops offering a variety of items at extremely fair prices. Most important of all…When we purchase an item from a local non-profit thrift shop, we support their mission's goal by providing them the resources to give back to the community, which they do in countless, wonderful ways. It’s as simple as that - “Buying is Giving!”
So, every time we buy at local no-profit thrift shops, we give back to our community in a variety of ways. Plus, we return home with once-loved treasures that can be loved again. It’s truly a “Win-Win.” In addition to buying, supporting these organizations with our no longer needed items when down-sizing or just cleaning out is also a “Win-Win.”
These thrift shops are all around us. Let’s stop in and say hello. Whether dropping items off or shopping, let’s remember “Buying is Giving.” Be sure to check each of their websites to learn more about their missions and what they accomplish.
Let’s take a look at our local 501c3 thrift shops:

Gold Mine Thrift Shop
6502 E Cave Creek Rd, Cave Creek, AZ 85331
"Friendly Thrift Shop with a Community Mission"
Mission Statement: Along with many monetary charities, including the Foothills Food Bank, Horses Help, Tierra Madre and Foothills Caring Corps (all a part of the Good Shepherd of the Hills Outreach program), the Gold Mine continues a rich tradition of providing service and physical merchandise to those in need.
The roots of the Gold Mine Thrift Shop actually go back to 1947 when a group of dedicated women held a regular rummage sale in support of the Good Shepherd of the Hills parish, originally a mission outpost.
Today, seventy-seven years later, the efforts of that original group of women have grown to a non-profit Outreach Program of the Good Shepherd of the Hills Church which puts100 percent of net proceeds back into the community. According to manager Randi Smelkó, Gold Mine donations go to Foothills Food Bank, Foothills Caring Corp, Fetch Foundation, Reining Grace, Native Health, Arizona Foothills 911, Tierra Madre, children’s clothing and toys to the San Carlos Apache reservation, and Free Spay/Neuter Clinic. The shop also collects veterinary offices' prescription bottles for recycling and provide towels and blankets to those clinics.
You can certainly say the organization has come a long way since their rummage sale 1947 beginnings.

American Legion Auxiliary Yearly Rummage Sale
6272 E Cave Creek Rd, Cave Creek, AZ 85331
Mission Statement: In the spirit of Service, Not Self, the mission of the American Legion Auxiliary is to support The American Legion and to honor the sacrifice of those who serve by enhancing the lives of our veterans, military, and their families, both at home and abroad. For God and Country, we advocate for veterans, educate our citizens, mentor youth, and promote patriotism, good citizenship, peace, and security.
The American Legion Auxiliary is a 501c19 group which, by definition, "provides for the tax-exempt status of qualifying veterans' organizations and their related auxiliaries that are organized in the United States or any of its possessions."
The Auxiliary's Rummage Sale & More is only a two-day event held at the end of January, but those two days are oh so powerful! The auxiliary's accomplishments throughout the year, and specifically this annual rummage sale, supports veterans and their families in need, as well as those who are deployed. Post 34 members and the community contribute clothes, art, household items, jewelry, furniture, and so much more.
According to Chaplain Susie Snider, "We are also directly involved in many American Legion programs with the focus being for God and Country. Fundraising efforts are a joy to our members because we know that we are able to bless when the need is presented."
Dates for 2025 are January 24 & 25. The Legion's Auxiliary is most thankful for the support they receive.

Dear Residents and Merchants,
March is a great month in the Cave Creek! The weather will be perfect for enjoying all the Cave Creek Rodeo Days events, shopping, dining, and of course our parks and trails, the crown jewels of the Town.
The Town of Cave Creek maintains a network of multi-use trails that connect portions of town, providing access to Cave Creek Regional Park, Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area, the Tonto National Forest, and linkages to the 314-mile Maricopa Trail and the Desert Foothills Land Trust properties. These trails offer hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Each year, however, several people need to be rescued while hiking. Please read my article in this newsletter on how to safely enjoy these trails.
March weather can be beautiful, but let’s enjoy it – safely.

Greeting from the Marshal,
I would like to take this time to welcome Grady E. Miller as our new Town Manager. Grady brings a tremendous amount of experience as a town manager and will make an excellent leader for the Town of Cave Creek. Grady hit the ground running and we are already impressed with Grady’s insight and direction. Welcome to Cave Creek, Grady.
Here we are folks. THIS is our season! Saturday, March 16 we will have our annual Rodeo Days Parade. Expect traffic restrictions to begin at 5am and continue through 1:30pm. The Thunderbirds will have their event at Stagecoach Village the same day. In addition, Mountain View Pub will be hosting their annual Saint Patrick’s Day activities on Saturday night the 16th and Sunday the 17th. PLEASE be careful and watch out for pedestrians especially on the weekend of March 16!
Please remember that special events are what help make Cave Creek the town we love. You will be seeing me and the Sheriff’s Office deputies out directing traffic over the next few months. Please be kind. Smile. Say hello. Often times, the deputies have been out for hours directing traffic and not all residents and visitors are as kind as you are. A smile and a hello can go a VERY long way in making our day. Thank you.
One last thing…We are seeing A LOT of illegal dumping in our desert. If you see someone dumping in your neighborhood, please call the non-emergency number at 602-876-1011. Why should YOUR tax dollars clean up a mess that was illegally dumped in our pristine town?
Rodeo Time! I hope to see you all at the Cave Creek Rodeo this March 22-24.
Stay Safe,
Marshal Stein

Know Before You Go!
By Mayor Bob Morris, Cave Creek
Residents and visitors alike are fortunate to have so many wonderful hiking options in the Cave Creek area. Let’s take a look at where these options are and how to enjoy them safely. A click HERE will take you to the Cave Creek Trail Network. Trails within the Town of Cave Creek boundaries include:
· Cave Creek Regional Park
· Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area
· Desert Foothills Land Trust
· Tonto National Forest Cave Creek Ranger District
· Maricopa Trail - more than 300 miles of connected trails that encompasses Maricopa County and links to 10 regional parks.
Most have dedicated parking lots and the maps will point out where you can (and should) park when enjoying the trails. A tricky one for many is Black Mountain Trail parking. When hiking Black Mountain, please go up School House Road and turn right on Mark Way where there is dedicated parking. Begin your hike by walking the rest of School House Road to the trailhead.
Each year, several people need to be rescued while hiking in our local parks and preserves. For a safe and enjoyable day, please follow the following basic guidelines:
DO:
· Wear appropriate footwear, clothing, eye protection and sunscreen for your adventure.
· Stay on marked and designated trails.
· Know before you go! Use maps and know the trails/terrain you will be encountering.
· Let someone know where you’re going and when you expect to return.
· Carry a fully charged cell phone, even when cell phone service is spotty. Activate battery saving Airplane Mode.
· Have a signaling device - whistle, small mirror, and/or brightly colored bandanna.
· Hydrate early, often, and have enough water for you, your children, and pets.
· Share the trail and manage your pet.
· Pick up your trash.
· Leave the area better than you found it.
· Keep wildlife wild. Leave wildlife and animals alone.
· If lost or disoriented and/or suffer a hiking injury, call for help immediately. Don’t delay or wait until darkness.
· When your water is half gone, stop and return to the trailhead.
DON’T:
· Cut through private property to get to a trail.
· Use motorized vehicles on any Town trails.
· Use trails when they’re wet or muddy. Wait for trails first dry. Remember: If you make a track, please turn back!
· Start fires.
· Overestimate your abilities and/or underestimate the difficulty of the hike.
· Hike alone (not recommended).
Equipped with this information we hope you enjoy the Town of Cave Creek trails.
Happy Trails!

Cave Creek's First Annual
“State of the Town”
Event
On Feb 28, Cave Creek’s Mayor Bob Morris addressed a room full of invited neighbors and friends at the Desert Foothills Library for his first annual “State of the Town” presentation. The event celebrated Cave Creek’s 2023 accomplishments. Those at the event also had the opportunity to meet Cave Creek's new town manager, Grady E. Miller. In addition, present at the event were also Deputy Town Manager Teresa Riza, Vice-Mayor Royer, Council Members Eelkema and McGuire, Marshal Stein, Town Directors, and Carefree’s Mayor Crane.
The event opened with a welcome by Mayor Bob and a video highlighting the 2023 accomplishments of the Town. Mayor Bob proudly shared the excellent financial status of the Town, then continued with details on vehicle and pedestrian safety, the Cave Creek Fire Department, the grant program, water and wastewater updates, and road improvements. Included in the presentation were expectation of ways to face upcoming challenges in these various areas. Mayor Bob also noted and explained Cave Creek ‘s voting initiatives on this 2024 election ballot.
Mayor Bob concluded by sharing information on Cave Creek Bike Week traffic safety precautions, updates on the sold-out Cave Creek Rodeo Days 2024, and Rodeo Grounds upgrades leading to its official acquisition by the Town of Cave Creek.
Overall, this first annual “State of the Town” event showed how Cave Creek, in all areas, is both meeting and exceeding the needs of the community, including the support of local charities.
For those unable to attend the event or wanting to re-view it, a simple click HERE brings you to the video of this excellent event.

Cave Creek Museum
~ Getting a New Face ~
Progress on the future home of the Cave Creek Museum’s Veterans Memory Garden is moving along nicely. Included in the garden’s plan is a frontage remodeling of the historic museum building, which is now being completed. Drive by and take a look!
This garden will be a special tribute to the veterans who secure our freedom. It’s designed and supervised by a master gardener and will contain plants and sites of the natural Sonoran Desert. Also included will be works by local master artists paired with veterans and expressing their thoughts, recollections and views in living art pieces. The artwork will change on a regular basis making the garden a place to visit over and over again.
The Town of Cave Creek’s trail system will lead naturally in and out of the garden, inviting tourists and residents alike to visit, sit a while, then reflect and honor their veterans.
Click HERE for additional details, a video, a look at the architect’s rendering of the garden, and to learn how you, too, can support this beautiful celebration of our veterans.
