Catifa Carta: How can a chair return to nature?

Research and innovation have guided Arper in the use of PaperShell, a new and revolutionary material derived from wood waste, capable of drastically reducing the quantity of CO2 in the environment in construction of Catifa Carta.

“THIS MILESTONE MARKS NOT ONLY A TRIUMPH IN DESIGN BUT ALSO A SIGNIFICANT STEP FORWARD IN OUR JOURNEY TOWARDS A MORE SUSTAINABLE FUTURE” - ROBERTO MONTI, CEO

The PaperShell material is produced in Sweden from by-products of the wood industry and solidified with natural resin as a binding agent. Arper is currently working on a take-back system for the furniture at the end of its life cycle. To ensure that the CO2 bound in the material is not released again, the company plans to one day convert the shell into biochar through pyrolysis, which can then be used to improve the soil.

Stored in 1 kg of PaperShell

One kilogram of PaperShell translates to about 1.58 kilograms of CO2 that might otherwise be released into the atmosphere.

Locked in one Catifa Carta

For each Catifa Carta, 1.94 Kg of CO2 can be saved from being produced and released in the atmosphere, thanks to a responsible end-of-life management.

Saved thanks to pyrolysis

A responsible end of life management of Catifa Carta (pyrolysis) allows to reduce up to 52% the production of CO2, compared to a polypropylene version with a traditional disposal process (incineration).
