Hello Rebecca,

February is a very special month at NDCR as we celebrated Catholic Schools Week with our students and educators!

National Catholic Schools Week is an annual celebration of Catholic education that has been celebrated since 1974. This is one of our favorite times during the year, celebrating what it means to be a Catholic school and how important a Catholic education is for our students as young adults attending Notre Dame Cristo Rey High School. This year, we celebrated the national themes of Faith, Excellence and Service with the addition of a Founders' Day celebration.

We are grateful to all who have taken part in our celebrations and for all who help us continue our mission every day.

Faith

Father John Dello Russo led our students and educators in a special Mass honoring our theme of "Faith" and in honor of our religious sponsor, the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. Not only was it a week to celebrate the importance of our Catholic education, but it was also SNDdeN Founders' Day on Thursday, February 2!

Excellence

As we celebrate and recognize our theme "Excellence," students learned about the importance of those who serve our nation. Marine Mike Johnson spoke to our students about his experience serving overseas and invited students to write letters to wounded soldiers. The letters were then sent by Ipods for Wounded Veterans to those who have served.

Service

Celebrating and recognizing our theme "Service," students learned about the importance of those who leave a large impact on our community. We had the pleasure of hosting: the Mayor of Methuen, Neil Perry, the Mayor of Lawrence, Brian DePeña, Senator, Pavel Payano, State Representative, Frank Moran, and State Representative, Estela Reyes. Our students and educators led them on a tour of the school, and they talked with a special panel of students. Mayor Perry spoke to all of our students during a special assembly about the importance of being actively engaged in our community and the importance of being a good global citizen overall. He also expressed great gratitude to NDCR for being part of the Methuen Community since our move!

Founders' Day

St. Julie Billiart, Françoise Blin de Bourdon and Catherine Duchâtel committed themselves to God by the three vows of chastity, poverty and obedience on February 2, 1804. This was the Founders' Day of our religious sponsor, the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. We were honored to celebrate this very special day during our Catholic Schools Week, and we are even more honored to be serving alongside our President, Sr. Maryalyce Gilfeather, SNDdeN and our Founder, Sr. Mary Murphy, SNDdeN in our ministry at NDCR!

Without the trust, support and determination of all the SNDdeNs and our faculty and staff and all of you who have embraced our vision, mission and values, our students would not be receiving the education that is helping develop them into young men and women of faith, excellence and service. Thank you!

A special thank you!

Our Corporate Work Study Partner, HP Hood, helped us celebrate this theme by supplying us with ice cream to surprise our students during lunch time for our Catholic Schools Week! Our students were so appreciative and thankful for this tasty treat!
