Our Mission: To proclaim Christ through faith, hope and love.

Friends

God is good, all the time – and all the time, God is good. This is more than just a phrase; it is a reality, and I am hoping that you know the goodness of God in your life.

Amid every circumstance in our lives, I am convinced, more than ever, that God has our best interests at heart. Why do I believe this? I believe this because I see the goodness of God expressed in so many ways. Through the generosity of spirit, the kindness and love expressed toward others, and the many ways we hold each other’s lives in both the good time and not so good.

These are the values of our faithfulness and belief in a God who is good, lived out in real and tangible ways that impact the world.

This Sunday we will begin a new sermon series: “Bless the Space Between Us”

In a world that often feels polarized and divided, we are called to remember Jesus' invitation to relationship and reconciliation. This sermon series will explore how we can bless and honor the spaces that divide us, seeking meeting points in our differences. Drawing inspiration from John O'Donohue's "To Bless the Space Between Us," we will reflect on the sacred nature of our connections and the transformative power of blessing. This Sunday I will explore “Original Blessing” and the blessing of kindness.

I am looking forward to this new sermon series and sincerely invite you to invest your time, energy and presence as we learn from the life and teachings of Jesus who, once again reminds us the God is good.

Blessings,

NEW DRIVEWAY UPDATE

After a long process working with the City of Dallas, the church is ready to start work on the new driveway. This construction activity will impact parking for those that typically park in the unpaved area behind the IPC. The construction period is expected to last for 3-4 months. The impacted area will be the gravel and dirt parking area behind the IPC. All members and guests will be asked to follow these guidelines when construction begins:

  1. Use the Inwood entrance as the primary entrance. There will be no access between Cedar Springs entrance and the concrete (Ford) parking lot due to construction. You must use Inwood to access the main church parking lot and the concrete lot (Ford) parking lot.
  2. The Cedar Springs, Nash Street and Barking Hound entrances will remain open. Parking will be limited to the area around the IPC.
  3. Parking will not be allowed in the construction area.
  4. Additional Sunday parking is available at the Resource Center.
  5. Later in the project, the concrete will be repaired in the Ford parking lot.

This continuation of the Cedar Springs Entry Project and Phase II of our Campus Master Plan will enhance accessibility and beauty to our church and symbolize our ongoing commitment to growth and progress as a community. Thank you for your cooperation.

Host an Event to Celebrate the 54th Anniversary of Cathedral of Hope!

As we approach the exciting milestone of our 54th anniversary, we are joyously looking forward to celebrating our community's journey and accomplishments. To make this celebration truly special, we invite you to host individual dinner parties, cocktail gatherings, or other events throughout the months of August and September.

Together, let’s celebrate our collective achievements, raise funds for our beloved church, and create beautiful opportunities for fellowship and connections within our community. Whether you gather with friends, family, fellow members or volunteers, or within your small groups, every event will contribute to our celebration of the 54 years of inclusion, love and HOPE.

Together, let’s get creative in planning events and have fun. Themed dinners, Bar B Que’s, cocktail parties, life group get togethers, swim parties and casual brunches are all great ways to get together in a way that celebrate our diverse community. If you are interested in hosting an event, please reach out to Randal Langdon, rlangdon@cathedralofhope.com or Chuck Norcross, cnorcross@cathedralofhope.com.

Our Fall Life Group Term starts the week of Sept. 8th!

And we have an exciting sermon series to engage with!

What if upon Jesus’ return, his first question to us is: “I asked you to do one thing: love. So, what happened?” If God is love and if Jesus is the perfect expression of that love, and if we are supposed to follow that Jesus—how can we so often be love-impaired? For as long as human beings have been declaring devotion to a God of love, they have been gloriously screwing it up by being hateful in the process. The Bible doesn’t shy away from that, and neither should we. Join us as we explore some of the ways we fall short of the call to “love God, self, and neighbor” through the book and sermon series If God is Love, Don’t be a Jerk!

Being in a life group is so important to our spiritual growth, creating relationships, and caring for each other in times of need. You are missing out if you are not currently in a group! And if you have ever thought about wanting to lead or host a group, NOW IS THE TIME! We provide all the training and support you need to be a successful leader or host. Contact Rev. Jeremy if you would like to chat about the possibilities!

We have life groups that meet all over the DFW metroplex and some that meet virtually! You will not want to miss this incredible sermon series and life group study! To find a group that works best for you or contact Rev. Jeremy at jrose@cathedralofhope.com.

But if you would rather attend a class to engage with the sermon series...

You can sign up for a class led by Rev. Jeremy that will take an in-depth look at this fall's sermon series and book, If God is Love, Don’t be a Jerk! This class is designed for those not in a life group or those who want a class setting for this study. Our life groups are the best place for spiritual growth and making relationships so we encourage you to find a group that works best for you (see the above announcement **this is part of the announcement). This class will be on Thursdays from September 12th to October 31st, from 7 pm to 8:30 pm, in the Fellowship Hall.

Contact Rev. Jeremy for more details at jrose@cathedralofhope.com.

AUGUST IS NATIONAL MAKE A WILL MONTH

Last month, we celebrated 54 years of faith and community at Cathedral of Hope. Together, we’ve proclaimed Christ through faith, hope, and love, creating a home for people of all walks of life to worship and grow. Thank you for celebrating this milestone with us.

This summer, we’re also observing another important milestone: National Make-A-Will Month.

As people of faith, we are called to protect what God has entrusted to our care for the next generation. That’s why Cathedral of Hope is sharing this free will-writing tool, so you can practice:

  • Stewardship: Make a plan for everything God has blessed you with, inspired by your faith and service.
  • Peace of mind: Dictate important decisions to support your loved ones, finances, and other blessings.
  • Legacy: Create an optional legacy gift to welcome future generations of people on their faith journeys into Cathedral of Hope.
Make A Will

This resource is completely free to use and takes as little as 20 minutes to complete. If you’ve found a family within our church walls, please consider a legacy commitment to share that blessing with future generations. Your legacy can strengthen Cathedral of Hope for the next 54 years and beyond.

Join us this Make-A-Will Month as we plan for the future and pass our faith to the next generation.

Cathedral of Hope, United Church of Christ is partnering with the National Alliance on Mental Illness of North Texas (NAMI) to offer support groups for families and caregivers and, Connection Recovery Support Group. For this to work, we are seeking people who would like to be trained and facilitate these groups.

Family Members & Caregivers

When your family member develops a mental health condition, it is essential to remember that you are not alone. Family members, caregivers, and loved ones often provide crucial support to those who live with mental health conditions. While this support is extremely valuable to your loved ones’ mental health, we understand that you may have questions, concerns, and struggles as you navigate their condition. Your family member may need help accessing resources, support groups, or educational information. Sometimes, they may even refuse help even when it is necessary. NAMI North Texas and Cathedral of Hope can support you through this process as it can be overwhelming to attempt alone.

Connection Recovery Support Group

Connection Recovery Support Group is a free, 90-minute support group for adults living with a mental health condition. Meeting once a month, connection recovery aims to combat the isolation and anxiety accompanying mental illness. These groups strive to create respectful, compassionate, and understanding environments that lead to meaningful conversations, where members share their struggles and successes. Members can find support and empathetic discussions that offer insight into others’ coping strategies, problems, concerns, and paths to recovery.

If you, or someone you know, might be interested in being trained to facilitate one of these groups, please contact Rev. Jeremy at jrose@catehdralofhope.com.
