Benjamin Nathan Apple will be called to the Torah as a Bar Mitzvah on Shabbat Emor, May 13, 2017. Benny was born on April 30, 2004 in Fishersville, Virginia. He is a 7th grade Honor Roll student at Wilson Middle School. Benny is a member of the Technology Student Association at his school as well as the Stock Market Club. He also plays soccer and basketball. In his spare time, you can find Benny hanging out with friends, watching movies and playing outside.
Throughout the past school year, Benny has been volunteering with the TLC Program (The Learning Center) at Wilson Elementary School. Benny worked with 1st and 2nd grade students, helping them with reading and math. Kevin, Shelby and Rachel Apple warmly welcome the entire congregation to celebrate with them as Benny becomes a Bar Mitzvah.

CBI Film Series: Breaker Morant

This classic Australian film tells the story of three army lieutenants who are court-martialed for alleged war crimes committed in South Africa. Although set in 1902,
Breaker Morant
deals with the most topical issues in modern warfare: the Law of War, and
war crimes when the combatants are insurgents and counterinsurgents.
Fred L. Borch III, Regimental Historian & Archivist for Army Judge Advocate General's Corps,
will introduce the film and lead the discussion afterwards.
All are invited to this free event.
Light refreshments will be served.

Whether your oldest known ancestors were from "Russia" or the Sephardic Diaspora, their ancestors were somewhere before that, and somewhere else before that. Learn how traditional genealogy research and cutting-edge DNA studies are shedding new light on Jewish history and migration.
Guest speaker, Rachel Unkefer, has been a traditional genealogist since 1984 and a genetic genealogist since 2009. She is an international expert in Jewish Y-DNA lineage research and has spoken at conferences and published in journals on genetic genealogy and traditional genealogy.
*A Silent Auction featuring paintings, prints, and "objets d'art" from around the world, fitting the theme of the program, will take place during the hospitality time before the program. CBI's Chutzpah Choir will participate in a city-wide interfaith concert performance of J. S. Bach’s Emmaus Road Cantata. This event will feature a combined choir including singers from the greater Charlottesville community and will benefit the International Rescue Center and the Haven.

CBI Alumni College Reunion Shabbat

On Friday May 26, CBI will be welcoming back students who have been away at college with a special Kabbalat Shabbat service and dinner beginning at 6:15 pm.

The Ritual Practice Committee invites you to a conversation about the current status of our Traditional Egalitarian minyan at CBI. This will be an opportunity for all who are interested to talk among ourselves and to share our thoughts and hopes about the future direction of this unique prayer community.
The conversation will take place during and after the kiddush following Shabbat morning services on June 3.

Register for Camp CBI 2017
|
Camp CBI is a place for children to create positive Jewish experiences
that will
last a lifetime. We offer an enriched
atmosphere for children; age 2 all the way to rising 9th graders
, in which Jewish themes and activities are interwoven into programming through movement, music, art, dance, games, science, field trips, Shabbat celebrations, and more. Our 6-week camp runs from June 12- July 21.
Before and after camp care will be available. Babysitting weeks for younger campers ages 2 - Kindergarten will run after our 6-week camp period ends.
The Noar Teen Traveling Camp will be open for students entering grades 7-9. Noar joins CBI teens with teens from Jewish communities around Virginia for a fantastic 1-week overnight camp adventure. Noar will take place from
June 26 - June 30 this summer
