It's been a busy week! Here are the highlights:
I am so impressed by the creativity and skill exhibited by the 90 talented high school artists who submitted their artwork for this year’s Congressional Art Competition!

After careful consideration by judges Lisa M. Berman of Berman Arts Agency and a Curator at the Muckenthaler Cultural Center in Fullerton and Benjamin Gonzalez, Chair of the Cultural and Fine Arts Commission for the City of Buena Park, the following winners were chosen:

  • 1st Place: “A Soulful Night Market” by Doyeon (Jennifer) Smith, Orange County School of the Arts
  • 2nd Place: “Obasan” by Lujing Kuwei, Glen A. Wilson High School
  • 3rd Place: “Welcome Home” by Samantha Hernandez, Buena Park High School

Thank you to all of our incredible participants! I’m honored that my colleagues in Congress and thousands of visitors from around the world will soon see a glimpse of California’s 39th District through Jennifer's art, which will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.
I hear every day from small business owners struggling to stay afloat due to inflation.

This week, I introduced the CPI Act to ensure that the federal government is prioritizing the impacts of inflation and identifying solutions to lower inflation and get our economy back on track.

I’ll keep fighting back against reckless federal spending and working on pro-growth policies to make life more affordable for workers, families and small businesses in CA-39.
Great to be with the Orange County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to recognize the winners of the 27th Estrella Awards! These incredible awardees contribute greatly to the success of our Orange County communities. Thanks to the Chamber for celebrating our local leaders!

  • Dr. Juan Francisco Lara Education Award: CSUF President Framroze Virjee

Congratulations to all!
Our law enforcement put their lives on the line each day to keep us safe and deserve our support.

I'm proud to lead the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) on the Beat Grant Program Reauthorization and Parity Act, which directly funds police hiring and training at local departments including at Anaheim PD. In my book, every week is National Police Week!
So fun to see familiar CA-39 faces in DC this week!

I caught up with students from Yorba Linda’s Friends Christian School on working across the aisle in Congress and speaking up for what you believe in. Go Lions!
The A.M. Contemporary Furnishings is a family-owned woodworking and furniture shop that utilized resources from the Small Business Administration to launch their dream.

I'm looking forward to seeing them thrive in Buena Park!
Xi Jinping is watching us and hopes that we are unsuccessful in producing a bipartisan, bicameral bill that improves our ability to compete with China globally.

We need a targeted bill that sends a strong message that the U.S. will lead on the world stage and counter the CCP. As part of the conference committee on U.S.-China competitiveness, I am using my voice to promote U.S. leadership, boost our competitiveness globally and expand supply chains so we don't have to rely on adversaries like China.
May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, a time to celebrate our AAPI community. We honor those who blazed trails before us, recognize those making communities better across the nation and recommit to uplifting AAPI voices and ensuring that future generations of Americans can achieve their dream.

Follow along on Twitter and Facebook at @RepYoungKim as we highlight a few of the many amazing Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders past and present from CA-39 and across the nation.
Amazing to be with the Soroptimist International of Brea and La Habra to recognize the Live Your Dream Grantees who are working hard to achieve their dream through an undergraduate degree or vocational skills training program.

Congratulations to these awesome young women!
As a mother of four and new grandmother, I enjoyed attending the Korean American Federation of North Orange County Parents’ Day Celebration at Grace Ministries in Fullerton and seeing traditional hanboks on display!

Thank you to all the organizers and attendees for a great event.
The U.S. plays an important role in supporting our allies, anticipating danger, and improving strategic stability – especially on the Korean Peninsula.

I was glad to join with Rep. Michelle Steel to send a letter to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Antony Blinken, urging them to strengthen the U.S.’s strategic deterrence efforts on the Korean Peninsula, push back against Kim Jong Un’s latest hostility and reaffirm a collaborative approach with the incoming Administration.
Casework & Catch Up
