This week I was in glad to be back in CA-39, working hard for you. Here's the highlights:
I had the honor of recognizing the remarkable efforts of some of our local businesses, including Salinas Tires and Wheels, Casa Adelita and Taqueria de Anda in La Habra, along with Klatch Coffee in Chino Hills and more.

California's small businesses were hit hardest by COVID-19, with more than 20,000 closing permanently. I'm inspired to see so many CA-39 businesses adapting, innovating, and going above and beyond to serve our communities. As a member of the House Committee on Small Business, I am dedicated to helping small businesses and entrepreneurs thrive.
I deeply appreciate the hard work of our local police officers to keep our communities safe. It was great to catch up with the Chino Hills Police Department to thank them for their efforts and to discuss how we can make our city safer for all citizens.
I am very proud of our award-winning Wildcats of Wickman Elementary School in Chino Hills! These outstanding students advanced to the Virtual World Finals and took first place in the Odyssey of the Mind Competition.

This competition requires teamwork, problem solving and creating thinking. I'm very grateful to parent coaches Ruby Chang and Pauline Wong for their dedication to equipping and uplifting Wickman students. I know they have bright futures ahead!
Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! Until October 15, I will be highlighting outstanding members of the Hispanic Community in CA-39. Be sure to follow me @RepYoungKim to hear their remarkable stories.
As you know, the coast of Orange County experienced an oil spill early this week. I joined Reps. Michelle Steel, Darrell Issa and Ken Calvert to demand answers from the Biden Administration regarding the delay by federal officials in making public the oil spill as well as the pipeline's past history of violations.

Our Orange County communities deserve transparency and more resources to contain the spill. I will always stand strong in support of our first responders.
It was a pleasure to join Brea community members and business owners at the Taste of Brea event! We enjoyed live music, food and offerings from local businesses while discussing issues vital to our local economy. It is an honor to represent so many innovative and hardworking entrepreneurs in Congress. Thank you to the Brea Chamber of Congress and their partners for hosting this wonderful event!
This mission of Paws4Success in Chino Hills is to save the life one service dog at a time, while helping people with disabilities gain independence and security through the use of highly trained canines. It was a pleasure to visit with them and learn more about their efforts.

I am proud to support common-sense efforts in Congress to safeguard animals, including the Greyhound Protection Act and Save America’s Forgotten Equines Act of 2021. I am also proud to support the PAWS for Veterans Therapy Act to connect service dogs with veterans facing PTSD through the Veteran's Administration.
During a Foreign Affairs Committee hearing this week, I asked Ambassador Ryan Crocker what tools the U.S. has following the disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal to protect the gains made by women and girls in a Taliban regime.

The answer? Those tools are few and far between. I will continue asking tough questions and demanding accountability on the withdrawal from Afghanistan.
It was a pleasure to join with educators and business owners Tom and Christy Hagan and members of the community to celebrate Encourage Learning Tutoring Center's grand opening in Chino Hills.

We discussed the challenges facing students today and their goals to help each child gain the confidence and acquire the skills they need to become a better student. As your Representative in Congress, I will keep working hard to expand and improve educational opportunities for young people.
Last Friday, I joined the Uyghur Human Rights Project on the National Mall in support of basic human rights and freedom, and against the PRC’s brutal genocide in Xinjiang.

I'm pleased to share that last week, the House Foreign Affairs Committee passed my bill to help the U.S. take concrete steps to support Uyghurs and other groups subject to the PRC's disinformation, coercion and abuse.
I’m hosting a Wildfire Roundtable at 6pm PDT on October 15 so members of our CA-39 community can hear directly from federal, state and local officials on the front lines of wildfires, including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association, National Weather Service, CalGuard and local fire departments, on their efforts to predict, prevent and contain fires in CA-39.

Seating is limited so please RSVP below before 5pm PDT on Thursday, Oct. 14 to attend. You will receive an email with additional details confirming your participation.
Need help with a federal agency, like the Small Business Administration, IRS or the VA? Please feel welcome to call my office or submit a casework request online. My team and I are here to serve you.

The U.S. State Department is still experiencing a severe backlog of passport requests, and my team is happy to help cut through red tape.
I am committed to helping California's 39th District get through the COVID-19 pandemic better than before. As we reopen our communities and get people safely back to work, I will do all that I can to make sure my constituents receive the relief you deserve.
