Welcome to Catch Up With Young Kim, my weekly e-newsletter to get you the latest on my work for you in Congress.

My team and I are here to serve you. As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to my office with any questions or concerns. I encourage you to follow me on social media on Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Instagram at @RepYoungKim.

This week, I was back in Washington fighting for you. Here are the highlights:
Small Business Administration (SBA) cyber risks were brought to light with unprecedented demand for SBA loans during COVID-19, discouraging entrepreneurs from starting a business and creating jobs. Indeed, half of small businesses with 500 or fewer employees say they will likely experience a cyberattack in the next year.

I’m pleased to share that on Wednesday, the House passed my bill with Rep. Jason Crow to strengthen the SBA’s cybersecurity capabilities to handle and report cyber threats that impact small businesses.
As your Representative in Congress, I am excited to be able to nominate students from California's 39th District to attend our U.S. Service Academies.

Thank you to the students and parents who joined my team in Brea to hear from the U.S. Military, Naval and Air Force Academies. I am pleased to see that young people in our community are eager to serve!

Please note: Packets for U.S. Service Academy nominations are due November 12.
While U.S. troops are no longer in Afghanistan, our mission to save lives is far from over.

Veterans, NGOs, Congressional offices and civilians have stepped up, but the State Department must also do its part to get Americans and our allies out of the Taliban's hands. I was glad to have the opportunity to hold them accountable at this week's Foreign Affairs Committee Hearing.
Happy Diwali! This Festival of Lights we remember that good prevails over evil, wisdom triumphs ignorance and light surpasses darkness always.

May we all take time to recognize the kindness, hope and joy in each of our lives and do our part to be forces of good in our communities.
During Veteran's Small Business Week, I joined veterans and the House Small Business Committee to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing veteran business owners.

As our small business owners continue to adapt during the COVID-19 pandemic, we must ensure Congress shows unwavering bipartisan commitment to support them. As Ranking Member of the House Small Business Subcommittee on Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Workforce Development, I was proud to help lead a House Resolution to celebrate the achievements of our veteran entrepreneurs who employ roughly 5 million Americans.

I will keep working on pro-growth policies that help our veterans innovate and thrive.
My team was happy to welcome yet another new business to Yorba Linda! Pet Supplies Pro is sure to make a lot of tails wag.

I am proud to be a leader in Congress on common sense protections for animals. I recently joined with colleagues to introduce the BARK Act, which will support animals in shelters and reduce landfill waste.
California workers and families continue to see rising costs of everyday goods during our nationwide inflation and supply chain crisis. Ramming trillions in reckless spending through Congress and relying on other countries for supplies will hike the cost of living and hit the brakes on our economic recovery.
During Day of the Dead we come together to share stories with loved ones and honor the lives of family and friends we have lost. I hope everyone had a festive, memorable Dia De Los Muertos celebration.
The economy cannot survive or thrive without the skills, the knowledge and innovation that the American worker contributes to their local communities.

We had a productive House Small Business Committee hearing yesterday on how we can support small businesses and close the ever-growing workforce skills gap.
Young environmentalist and community servant Ava Mack created a family hiking guide, ranger program, and website for Chino Hills State Park, along with hosting a kick-off event. My team was honored to recognize her well-deserved Girl Scout Gold Award!
The record-high container ship bottleneck at Southern California ports right here in our backyard is causing a supply chain crisis, driving up prices across U.S. communities.

Team Young enjoyed seeing so many creative costumes and smiling faces as our CA-39 communities came together for Halloween. I hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloweekend!
I enjoyed talking about promoting human rights and standing tall against authoritarian regimes with my mentor and friend Condoleezza Rice. We must ensure the U.S. remains a global leader on the world stage and I'm committed to doing my part on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
My heart is so full after a special visit yesterday from my granddaughter (and future President/Congresswoman)! Baby Mia made some new friends and got an inside look at Congress.
I am committed to helping California's 39th District get through the COVID-19 pandemic better than before. As we reopen our communities and get people safely back to work, I will do all that I can to make sure my constituents receive the relief you deserve.
Casework & Catch Up
Need help with a federal agency, like the Small Business Administration, IRS or the VA? My team and I are here to help.
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
