It's been a busy week in CA-39! Here's the highlights:
I'm thinking of all who answered the call to serve in Afghanistan— our troops, the thousands who gave everything in support of freedom, their families and the Afghan partners who helped us along the way. It's heartbreaking that we end this chapter leaving Americans and allies behind.

This week, I joined a bipartisan group of colleagues to posthumously award the Congressional Gold Medal to the 13 U.S. service members who gave everything to defend Americans, Afghan families and our allies. I continue to pray for our gold star families and those still in harm's way.

Free, confidential support for veterans is available 24/7 at the VA’s crisis line.

No expecting mother should feel alone or abandoned. Unfortunately, many women in our community are not aware of the local, state and federal resources available to them, especially during an unplanned pregnancy. As a mom of four, I’m proud to join my colleagues to introduce the Care for Her Act to strengthen the outreach and effectiveness of programs for education, mentoring, housing and other support services for pregnant women and their children.

The bill would expand resources for expecting mothers by:

  • Implementing a $3,600 child tax credit for the preborn;
  • Creating a federal-state Pregnancy Support Collaborative and Pregnant and Parenting Women’s Care Information Service, with a toll-free number and website for mothers to receive support;
  • Establishing a grant program for effective maternity housing, mentorship and job training programs.
  • Providing performance incentives for communities that demonstrate improved maternal and child health outcomes.
I joined our Yorba Linda community at Stefano's to honor our fallen heroes and pray for our Gold Star Families. I was glad for the opportunity to come together to pray and discuss the issues at hand. The message I received was loud and clear: our community is devastated for our fallen service members and frustrated with the Biden Administration's rushed withdrawal from Afghanistan without a plan to ensure stability in the region and evacuate Americans.

As a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee in Congress, I will not rest until our questions and concerns on this issue are addressed. Our country deserves answers.
My team was overjoyed to attend the ribbon cutting of the new playground at El Centro Lions Park in La Habra! I’m so grateful to Kaboom, CarMax and volunteers from the Lions Club, American First Credit Union and Institute for Healthcare Advancement for their incredible three day effort to build this kid-designed playground. I truly appreciate each and every person who put in the hard work to make this playground dream a reality!
I was glad to visit Providence St Jude Medical Center in Fullerton to receive an update on their operations and thank them for their incredible efforts throughout the pandemic. I met with Chief Executive Laura Ramos, Community Health Investment Regional Director Barry Ross, and Director of Government and Public Affairs Jordan Abushawish.

Providence St Jude has proactively worked to serve communities throughout the COVID-19. Their remarkable staff administered approximately 62,000 vaccines in hospital and 11,000 out in the community. It was awesome to witness their work in action at the Fullerton community center.

I will continue to work hard to ensure that unspent federal dollars are allocated appropriately to assist hospitals who are exhausting budgets to address this public health crisis.
If you’ve flown in a plane, chances are you’ve seen parts created by Adams Rite Aerospace Inc. I enjoyed touring their Fullerton facility to see some of their work, which includes from overhead bins and door latches on planes to military equipment.

As a member of the House Space Subcommittee, I will continue to do all I can to support our Aerospace manufacturers and the STEM Education that makes their work possible.
Congratulations to Brea Mayor Lt. Steven Vargas on his well-deserved promotion to Lieutenant Commander.

I was honored to join our Brea community to celebrate this accomplishment and present Mayor Vargas a Certificate of Recognition.
I am so grateful for all of our incredible small businesses in CA-39! It was amazing to see them in action and recognize their resilience during this difficult time.

I'm hearing from many local business owners that supply chain disruptions and a lack of reliable staff is negatively impacting them as they work to recover from COVID-19. All around our district, I noticed "help wanted" signs in windows. As Ranking Member of the Small Business Subcommittee on Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Workforce Development, I am doing all I can to create pro-growth policies that support businesses and workers through this recovery.
In case you missed it: backlog for passport requests is at an all-time high. I encourage you to check your passport expiration date, especially if you are planning to travel.
Please contact my office or visit travel.state.gov to learn more. We’re here to serve you always.
I am committed to helping California's 39th District get through the COVID-19 pandemic better than before. As we reopen our communities and get people safely back to work, I will do all that I can to make sure my constituents receive the relief you deserve.
