Saif Khairat leads team to establish first-of-its-kind virtual care center

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has been awarded a $3.73 million grant from the National Institutes of Health’s National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences for a five-year project to establish the Center for Virtual Care Value and Equity (ViVE). ViVE will build a repository of real-world virtual care data not previously available to researchers. The center will also develop frameworks to guide investigators through the design, implementation and evaluation of virtual care research, offering training and support throughout the process.

Cheryl Giscombé elected to the National Academy of Medicine

The UNC School of Nursing proudly announces that Interim Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Cheryl L. Woods Giscombé, PhD, RN, PMHNP-BC, FAAN, has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine. Election to the Academy is considered one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine. Dr. Giscombé has influenced national guidelines as a leading scholar in mental health, resilience, clinician wellness and mind-body research.

UNC School of Nursing undergraduate program tied for fourth in the nation

U.S. News & World Report published its 2024 Best Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program rankings, and Carolina Nursing is tied for fourth among the Best Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs in the United States.

$5 Million gift to Carolina Nursing addresses nursing shortage

Joanne and William E. Conway Jr., prominent Washington, D.C.-area philanthropists and supporters of nursing education, pledged $5 million to support nursing students and develop nurse educators at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill through their foundation, the Bedford Falls Foundation. The historic gift is the largest in school history to support students, and more than doubles the amount of annual scholarship funding available for the school’s baccalaureate program.  

$1 Million gift to Carolina Nursing supports new Nursing Education Building

The UNC School of Nursing has received a $1 million gift — among the largest in school history — from an anonymous donor. This historic donation was given by a Carolina Nursing alum in her mother’s memory and will support the new Nursing Education Building. This anonymous gift kicked off the public phase of the UNC School of Nursing’s building campaign, which will run through the completion of the building project in the summer of 2025.

UNC School of Nursing designated an Apple Distinguished School

Barroso secures $1.2 Million grant to enhance nursing education for underserved communities

Carolina Nursing is proud to share that Susana Barroso, PhD, RN, along with her dedicated team, has been awarded a $1.2 million grant titled “Closing the Gaps: Strengthening Nursing Education through Partnerships to Improve Care for Underserved and Rural Communities" from the Health Resources and Services Administration.
