A 6-Month Look-in to Missouri's Rec Marijuana Industry

By: Jay Preston

Due to the passage of Amendment 3 in the November 2022 election, it became legal on Dec. 8, 2022, for anyone age 21 or over to purchase, possess or be under the influence of marijuana in Missouri. However, it was not until February that licensed dispensaries were authorized to sell marijuana to the public. The demand far exceeded expectations.

Maximizing Your Protection: Additional FDIC Insurance Coverage for Revocable Trust Accounts

By: Alexandra A. Henson

The recent failures of Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank have shaken the public’s trust in financial institutions. Many people are paying renewed attention to the coverage provided to their bank accounts by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). The FDIC is an independent U.S. government agency which provides deposit insurance to protect depositors in case of bank failure. The FDIC insures up to $250,000 per depositor, per insured bank, for each category of account that an individual owns (i.e., deposit account, CD, investment account, etc.). This means that if you have multiple accounts at one bank, your deposits are insured up to $250,000 for each category of account held at that banking institution.

Many small business owners may be surprised to learn of a new reporting requirement that if not followed could carry extremely harsh penalties.

Estate Planning in the New Year

By: Andrew T. Peebles

Let’s kick off the new year by tackling a topic that gets people excited: estate planning! Believe it or not, estate planning is an area in which I greatly enjoy working. This twisted sense of enjoyment is due primarily to the fact that I get to provide peace of mind to my clients and guide families through some pretty difficult conversations. I have the opportunity to remove burdens from families and give them confidence that they, and their loved ones, will be cared for during periods of death or disability. This allows clients to move forward with confidence and focus on activities that bring them more enjoyment.

Seeking Mediation?

Mediation requires diplomacy and a strategic approach to problem solving that draws on litigation and courtroom experience. Assessing the unique position of each party, along with their claims and defenses, and channeling communications to a middle ground through negotiations, are essential skills every mediator must have.

The Mediation Team at Carnahan Evans PC is well qualified to help you in reaching a successful mediation, all designed to eliminate the risks and costs of protracted litigation and the uncertainty that comes with jury and bench trials or binding arbitration awards.
