The White Barn at Robinson Canyon Road and Carmel Valley Road
During its February 14th meeting, the Carmel Unified School District Board voted to accept the county’s offer to purchase the property the district owns at Robinson Canyon Road in Carmel Valley. If you are interested in reading the document associated with this purchase, here is the Link.
On page 12 of the February 2nd issue of The Carmel Pine Cone had an article by Chris Counts which is an excellent summary of the county’s bid to purchase the property once known as the Carmelo Athletic and Social Club. If you haven’t read the article, here is a Link.
As stated in the sales agreement, after a description of what will happen during the assessment period of 45 days, there is to be a contingency period:
The County, at County’s sole cost and expense, shall have a forty-five (45) day period, commencing the day following the expiration of the Assessment Period, to perform additional County’s due diligence (the Contingency Period). County reserves the right to terminate the Purchase Agreement should the condition below not be met during the Contingency Period:
Plans for Relocation, Renovation, and Caretaking of the Building : Execution of a letter of intent between County and a partnering third-party agency, organization, or company to manage and fund the relocation, renovation, and caretaking of the Building.
Because CVA’s mission is to preserve and protect the rural character of the valley, our board advocates for keeping the building in place out of respect for its historical significance and in an effort to maintain the rural character of the mid-valley. Nearly 500 signatures in favor of keeping it in place have been gathered.
CVA board members have met with representatives of the Carmel Valley Historical Society to consider the structure’s future. Further communication with the county and other groups will follow as the sale moves forward.
For background on the building’s role in the rural culture of the valley, you can read the article by Elizabeth Barrett here is the Link.
