1-844-817-5313 (toll free)

or online at

go.schoolmessenger.com

If you are a new user, you must create an online account to use the web portal / phone app features.  Your email must match the email you use to log in to your PowerSchool Parent Portal.

  • You may report your student's absence for the same day until 15 minutes after the start of school. After that time, you must call the school office or use the interactive features when you receive a notification call.

  • You can schedule planned absences in advance by using the online portal or Smartphone App.

  • If you do not report your child's absence, you will receive a phone call via our interactive phone system for you to verify your student's absence. You may also receive calls from the school office.

  • It is important that you maintain a current phone number and email address with your child's school to ensure timely communication regarding your child.

Changes in your student's normal dismissal routine:

Please send a note to your child's teacher and contact the school office at 740-833-1450. Please call the office by 2:00 pm for any same day dismissal changes. If there is no contact with the school regarding the change, your child will follow their normal dismissal routine.

Please remember to get a doctor's excuse to turn in to the school office if your child is absent for a medical or dental appointment. 'the student will be excused from school with proper documentation from the physician indicating the appointment time and duration of the office visit.' See page 13 of the 23 - 24 Student Handbook

Attention All Inventors in Grades K-5!!

Parents, if you are looking for a fun, creative, yet challenging program that integrates problem solving for your child, consider signing him/her up for the 2023-24 Invention Convention.

Participating in Invention Convention is a great opportunity for kids to sharpen their creative problem solving skills. Through the Invention League's Invention Convention Program your young inventor will be challenged to identify a problem, research an original solution, build a prototype and develop it into a marketable invention; he or she will evolve from inventor to an entrepreneur.

Students can work alone or in teams of two. Team members do not need to be in the same grade or in the same school.

The 2023-24 Delaware City Schools Invention Convention will be held in person.  Inventors must have a finished project (completed journal, prototype of invention, and display board) and be ready for the judging competition on the morning of Thursday, March 21st.

To: Beginning Band Parents

From: Anne Brandyberry, Alan Notestine, William Fowles; Instrumental Directors

Re: Beginning Band

Date: January 16, 2024

Your child recently heard an exciting concert featuring the Hayes Pep Band. Next year's beginner band is now starting to be organized. Your child will have great fun playing in the school band, and additional fun playing at home for other family members.

While a beginner need not have special talents to get started, he/she will soon develop the necessary skills and abilities. Your child can sound as good or better in a similar amount of time as the students they heard today. But these are not the only benefits from playing music. Your child will learn cooperation, respect, discipline, skills to face challenges, and pride in themselves.

On Feb 26th and 29th, your child will have the opportunity to try the various instruments that make up the band/orchestra. At this time, qualified instructors from Rettig Music and the band staff will help place your child on an instrument that best suits his/her physical characteristics. Upon completion of instrument testing at all of the DCS Elementary schools, you will be receiving a note outlining your child's instrument try-out results.

You are also invited to attend a Beginner Band Parents' Meeting, on Tuesday, Feb 6, 2024, at 7:00 pm  to introduce the instrumental program and answer any questions you may have. Prior to this meeting I would ask that you please discuss with your child the benefits of belonging to the school music program, and what would be your child's first and second instrument choice. Using instrument test results as a guideline, the student, parent, and instrumental director will collectively agree on an instrument on which we believe your child would be most successful.

Thank you for your interest in your child's music education!

Musically Yours,

Anne Brandyberry, William Fowles and Alan Notestine
