Finishing the School Year Strong!

Earlier this year, I challenged our students to be the difference makers in the lives of their peers and look out for those who are struggling. I now want to thank them for rising to the occasion and finishing the school year strong, especially our seniors, who we will recognize at our commencement ceremony next Friday, May 24th at 7:00 p.m. in the high school gymnasium.

These seniors, the Class of 2024, have embraced the opportunity to be role models for our underclassmen. They have had tremendous school spirit throughout the year and understand what it means to look out for one another. They are courteous and caring, and also realize the importance of working together. The awesome prom event that Ms. Lori Steffen and the prom committee put on a few weeks ago where over 230 juniors and seniors gathered for a great evening of fun and dancing is just one example that these students know how to celebrate in a respectful and positive manner. I have no doubt the Class of 2024 will continue to make the world a better place upon their graduation next week. They have certainly set the bar high for next year’s senior class. Click here to read more!

Chromebook Return and Storage An Important Update from our Technology Department

AHS Seniors will return their Chromebooks during SSR on May 21st and 22nd. Please have the device cleaned, in the case, and have the charging cable with it.

AES 4th graders will return their Chromebooks on May 28th - 30th. Please have the device cleaned, in the case, and have the charging cable with it.

All other students will keep their Chromebook over the summer. If your student(s) are not using their device over the summer, please be sure to charge it to 80% battery level and then shut it off completely by holding the power button until it turns off, then safely store. Chromebook batteries tend to go bad over the summer if they are left at a low percentage of charge.

The Annandale Technology Department would like to wish Ray DeMarre and Bo Wilke good luck with their new positions. They were tremendous assets to the Annandale School District and our department!

Middle School Minutes

On May 6th, each of our middle school bands performed evening concerts for families and friends. This was the last band concert of the year for our middle school students, and they performed in front of a packed high school auditorium. Knowing that it was their last concert as a middle schoolers, our 8th grade students signed a card and presented it to Mrs. Duffy as a thank you for all she does to support music education for our students.

At AMS, every 6th grade student has an 8th grade mentor that they spend time with throughout the school year. Over half of our 8th graders signed up to be mentors! These students attend mentorship meetings. Each meeting has a different focus. During the last mentorship meeting, the 6th graders asked questions about transitioning into the 7th and 8th grade wing. They also wrote thank you cards together to show appreciation to a staff member who has made a positive impact on their school year.

Our middle school staff welcomed current 5th grade students and their families into the building this week for our annual Moving to the Middle program. Students and families were guided through a "day in the life of a 6th grader" by our 6th grade team. Then the AMS staff led the students on a tour of the building while their families learned about support services, communication, and procedures at the middle school. We are excited to welcome a new class in the fall, and we wish our 8th graders the best as they move to the high school!
