2024-25 Bell Schedule

After sharing with and surveying the Bellaire faculty and the Bellaire Shared Decision-Making Committee (SDMC), Bellaire High School will move to an eight-period traditional schedule in 2024-25 to meet the needs of changing standards as set forth by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). The traditional schedule is like what we have now where students meet with their teachers and classes every day. One of the most critical changes to TEA standards is in College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) with regards to Career and Technology (CTE) programming. Students are now expected to be “completers” in their career pathway. Completer status means students complete four years of their CTE pathway and pass the industry-based certification exam for that pathway. With the current bell schedule Bellaire is currently unable to meet that expectation and maintain valuable conference period time for teachers to efficiently plan lessons, assess student work, and collaborate within their departments and content to maintain the high level of quality instruction that has defined Bellaire High School. This is a critical component of the TEA accountability system, and we must consider it as we continue to work towards keeping our autonomy. Furthermore, the district is moving to a standardized CTE model for high schools in 2024-25. This was first presented to principals a few weeks ago. In a nutshell, it means we are expected to open four open new career pathways per district expectations. We are planning to open career pathways in (1) Healthcare Informatics, (2) Entrepreneurship, (3) Cybersecurity, and (4) Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics. This new development further underscores the need for eight periods to meet these new requirements. Other benefits include no need for a zero period as those classes can now be built into the regular school day, the addition of new electives for students which will be shared during upcoming course selection, and additional class support and intervention for students who will benefit from it. In certain cases, if planned appropriately, some students may even be able to graduate in three years if that is a priority for them. Cardinal Hour, senior lunch privileges, and senior off campus privileges remain intact for 2024-25.

Cell Phones and Earphones

District policy is that cell phone use is not allowed when a student is at school, from the time they enter the school doors until they leave with the exception of during lunch (high schools only). Cell phones should not be visible unless they are in a mesh or see-through backpack. Phones should be kept in the backpack or relinquished to the school per school procedures at the beginning of class or once a student enters the school. The same goes for headphones and/or earbuds.
