THIRD GRADE READING SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT 

 

 

Students at Canton Elementary, Reuben Myers Canton School of Arts & Sciences, and Goodloe Elementary School will take the new third-grade reading state test Tuesday, April 13-22. 
Students are required by a new state law to pass this test for promotion to the 4 th Grade.

The 3rd Grade Reading Summative Assessment will be used to determine students' reading mastery status. Students scoring at the lowest achievement level on this assessment will have the opportunity to be reassessed before the school year ends and over the summer. Interventions must be provided between the first and second test. Students who still do not demonstrate proficiency will not be promoted to the 4th grade unless he/she qualifies for an exemption. All information related to a child's promotion status will be communicated to parents in writing.Much work has been done all year long to help ensure the success of our K-3 students.  Parents please encourage your children to do their best on the test!   


 

 

 

 

 

   









 

 Managing Reality

 

 

Some Canton Career Center students got a rude awakening when they got a "Welcome to the Real World." The Mississippi State University Extension Service program is an active, hands-on, real-life simulation designed to help young people learn about the financial obligations adults face on a daily basis. Each student is given a scenario containing an occupation, marital status, and number and ages of children. After participants receive their monthly salary, they then proceed through the Real World, deducting taxes, determining a savings amount, and spending their monthly "salary" on the necessary or luxury items that reflect their careers and lifestyles. Participants receive no financial support from family or others.
